I'd like to hear your thoughts and opinions, good and bad, on this system. I have a Yamaha RX-A740 av receiver. Polk RTi12's as fronts. Polk CSi4 as center. ( because that is all I have room for on my mantle). Polk RTi4's as presence spkrs. And polk RTi10's as surrounds. Thought? Critizisms? Suggestions? Thanks!

Thoughts ? Too big of speakers for that receiver. Receiver doesn't have enough power to do the 12's justice let alone another set of 10's in the mix.
You need to add a decent 2 channel amp at least for those 12's, maybe a 5 channel amp would be better but at least a 2 channel for the fronts. However I don't know if that receiver has preouts or not to be able to add an amp.HT SYSTEM-

First off, what size is the room? What is the primary use, and how loud do you usually like to listen (music preferences, concerts, DVDs, etc.) Also, do you have a sub, and if so which one?
The speakers you have are very good for H/T ; I asked the questions above because the 12s you have for fronts like lots of power, and that AVR is 90wpc.
And where are my manners, welcome to Club Polk. This is a great place, but you can lose lots of money in a very short time! LOLSo, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Welcome to CP. Looking at the back panel it looks like the amp has pre outs for fronts, surround channels and subs. I echo the above in that I would get minimally a 2 channel power amp for the front L-R mains.
I have a earlier generation Yamaha AVR, and that's what I do. The AVR powers the center and rear surrounds. It plays clean at very loud levels."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Forgot to mention. I also have 2 Polk psw505 subs. The room is 12x22. I normally don't listen to it very loudly, but I do blow the dust off once in a while. Lol. I just like very good sounding music. One might say I play it somewhat loud. I know these Polks are capable of a lot more. What would be the ideal receiver for them? Preferably a 7.2 What power rating should I look for?

Oh yeah, thanks for the welcome!

No AVR is capable of driving those speakers properly. You need an amp.Political Correctness'.........defined

Ideal? That's a tough one, there are many brands people here prefer (Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, to name a few), and I'd look for a 7.2, 125wpc minimum, and that's only if there are pre-outs so you can add an external amp down the road. Even if you added a 2ch amp for the 12s, you're still looking at some power-hungry 10s (I have RTi10s as my fronts), a decent center and 2 more surrounds that your AVR will need to drive.
The thing is, it seems most "entry-level" AVRs these days just do not have those pre-outs and barely can output 100wpc; I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything under $500 that will be a suitable upgrade for you. You're probably looking at about 1K+ for something that will last several years, unless you find a great deal on an open-box item at BestBuy, buy used, or can find a refurb unit with a warranty. Shop around, take your time, at least you have something in place that sounds good, you can improve as time and your budget permits.
Then we can think about how to spend your money on a new sub... lolSo, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
