Breathing Room???

I'm having a custom cabinet made for my equipment and I need some advice on breathing room for my receiver. I'm not worried about the top clearance as there will be a good 4" above the receiver and 6.5" above the M-Blocks. The question that I have is does side clearance make any difference? I would assume not as heat rises and vents directly from the top of the component. (Please note that the back and front will be open for maximum airflow.) The way the design is now, the M-Blocks are to the side of the receiver at the bottom of the rack and there would be 2" on the outside of each and 2" between them.
Any input would be appreciated.

IMHO sides are not as important ... top is where you want room and front to back open for airflow ...

Heat rises.......- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
