Adcom GFP-1A issue

I just picked up some "new" gear that includes:
1 ADCOM Preamp Model GFP-1A
1 ADCOM Power amp Model GFA-555
1 DENON AM-FM Tuner Model TU-400
1 DENON Stereo CD player Model DCD-1100
1 DENON Stereo Cassette Tape Deck Model DR-M33HX
1 DENON Stereo Cassette Tape Deck Model DR-M34HR
2 Genesis Model 66 Series 2 speakers
I hooked everything up and it sounds great but there may be an issue with the preamp. With the balance in the neutral position I get equal volume from both speakers, when I turn it all the way left there is no change, when I turn it all the way to the right there is no sound from either speaker. Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

Any scratchiness in sound when turning? Might consider a little Deoxit in the pots first and then move to other possibilities.Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

just for my info. What model of 555 do you have. I have a series one rack face that has never failed and according to the spec sheet from Audio Classics puts out a bit more than 200 w a side. I believe I have the same model, it has a rack face. Very nice amplifier. A review of the amp I read is the 200 watt per channel rating is very conservative. It is a huge upgrade from the Adcom GFA-1 I was running that is also rated at 200 watts per channel.

Here is a link to the speakers I got, Genesis Model 66 Series 2. According to a man who worked at Genesis at most 100 pair were produced.
