rtia9 sale!!!
Just wanted to share an experience I just had. So a few days ago I was browsing through CL and stumbled upon a set of a9's for sale. This person had them listed for 200 for the set!! I thought to my self this is to good to be true. Now I really don't have room to fit another set of 9's into my setup but I thought if this is legit how can I pass it up!?! So after talking with the guy for a few days and him sending me many pictures( they appeared in mint condition) we decided to meet today so I could see them in person. Now I was a bit hesitant to meet some random person off cl because I've never boughten anything from that site, but I basically said screw it for a chance at these 9's. The guy turned out to be extremely nice when we met. So after inspecting the speakers for a while and no seeing a single scuff or scratch on either one I decided to roll the dice and buy them, not knowing if anything was blown or if they worked at all. After a long drive home I unpacked them as soon as I walked through the door. Hooked them up to my emo and cranked em up a bit.....$200 has never sounded so good!!! They sound perfect! I figured a tweeter would be shot or something at the very least, but to my surprise they sound mint as well! Very very happy with this purchase and they are now serving front wide duty very nicely. Just wanted this story with everyone and happy speaker hunting

My pioneer elite sc-65 allows me to adjust the x-curve. I set mine to -1.5 and it really seems to help tone down any brightness in the rtia line...knew I shouldn't have mentioned the emo..lol

Congrats on a good score!

Oh yeah I almost forgot to mention this because I was so pumped about the speakers..the guy mentioned he had a h/k CD player he was looking to get rid of also. Told him I probably wasn't intreasted in it but to bring it anyway and I'd look at it. So when I met him I told him I only brought enough for the 9's...he then told me it worked perfect and I could have it for free!! Probably only worth ~150 or 200 bucks, but it made the deal that much sweeter for me

You did great voight1! Enjoy them, and thanks for the post!

RTiA's "perfectly" powered by an Emotiva amp and you love them! Go figure! My pioneer elite sc-65 allows me to adjust the x-curve. I set mine to -1.5 and it really seems to help tone down any brightness in the rtia line...knew I shouldn't have mentioned the emo..lol
Not so "perfectly" after all. Go figure! LOL

I'm actually glad you brought this point up @xcapri79. This thought had also crossed my mind and the last thing I wanted to do was buy someone's ripped off gear..so I asked this guy to send me the serial#'s off the back off the speakers before we agreed to meet. At this point he said that was fine and informed me that he had bought them directly from Polk. So I got the numbers and called Polk and explained my concern and they confirmed that yes they had sold them to this same person in 2011. Can't ask for much more proof than that, gave me some peace of mind.Post edited by voight1 on

Congrats!Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Actually, watching you stick your foot in your mouth again and seeing Z call you out for what you are MADE my day.
Using my Pioneer Elite SC AVR with the RTiA7's I found adjusting the X curve to .5 did a pretty good job of addressing the tweeter issue. More than that resulted in a veiled sound. After modifying the crossovers I no longer needed the X curve adjustment. So, obviously using an inherently bright Emo amp makes the issue much worse.Political Correctness'.........defined

Congrats to the OP for a nice score, a really nice score.
F1NUT has a point though before we all start going ape sh$t. When you start monkeying with the signal you sometimes do get a veiled sound at the expense of taming down the highs. Not always the case, but more times than not I'm willing to bet.
For me, I like no processing in my 2 channel, everything direct as it should be so I have a better grasp on what part of my system floats my boat and what part sucks and needs change.
Does that make using processing bad ? No....but it does hide the truth. Who really cares in the end anyway, as long as what your hearing has you looking for that lost left nut, rock on.HT SYSTEM-

He basically told me that he had way to much gear and his wife was gonna kill him if some of it wasn't gone asap. He said that the 9's took up to much floor space for his new house and he couldn't use them anymore..even with all that going on I would never let mine go for that price...ever!

Also I would like to say that I didn't mean to start any kind of debate, however I do think opposing views can sometimes be useful, I know that it sometimes inspires me to try something different and see if I like it. Also yes I would of loved to own a top of the line parasound or grand cinema or something along those lines but the wife would kill me if I spent that much money on an amp..maybe someday but for now I'm very pleased with my set up and maybe ingorance is bliss for this audioholic

I would also like to thank everyone for the congrats and positive feedback with this score. Had some time to listen to some tunes last night for a couple hours. I only had the front stage running( turned off the surrounds) and the music seemed to wrap right around me and give me a nice big hug...it was pretty awesome!!

That's a major score and a rig to be very proud of. I wish I could find a pair of A9s in black on a deal such as that. I Think the wife would absolutley have something to say about that move as in a big no, but wonder if she would notice the difference between them and the A5's if she was not around when they were swapped out?Home Theater
