$1000-1500 investment. What are your thoughts on direction.
I currently own :
Polk Monitor 10Bs (spk)
Altec Lansing Segovias (spk)
Acoustiflex Model 17 (spk)
JVC 9010 VBK (rcvr)
Sony CDP-C545 (cd)
Yamaha YST-160 (sw)
Carver C-9 (sonic holo. gen.)
SAE (para. EQ)
Soundcraftsman (EQ) (on fritz)
Panasonic DVD-RV30 (DVD)
Sony SLV-N60
Phillips model? (CDR)
KLH center and surrounds:(
All held together with cheap interconnects.
I'm thinking:
I need a better center. It should sound like my fronts. I prefer the midrange of the Acoustiflex, the highs of the 10Bs and the over-all sound of the Altecs. Would an SL2000 mate well with a 3x9 horn mid? The 3-way Acoustiflex have controls for the tweeter and mid that would be good to compensate for the lower cut-off (presumably) of the 2-way utilized SL2000. If I went this way, it would be much easier to fandangle a center. My rcvr has a 5-way setting for center sound. If I go this route, I'm considering some EV 15in. triaxials in the rear. I've got a drop ceiling so I can recess/enclose creativly. Although I love the sound of the 35i & 55i, I just think vintage would sound better with vintage. This combined with better cables would make for a happy Gidrah.
I could also go with (4)55i and a 400i center. Or (2)1000i, (2)25i, 400i since my daughter would topple anything on a stand. This too would make for a happy Gidrah, but these options would decide the sale of current stuff and dictate further buys (cables).
I could just spend it on fronts (+/- sale of current), get some Cambridge surrounds and see what's left over for the center. I listen mostly to music. Stereo and 4ch stereo.
You tell me.

Thanks! I'll have to look into these. If I can save $200 on fronts, I could recable my system too. Or at least the main parts.
Come on guys! Throw me a friggin' bone here!Make it Funky! -
i also would recommend the 800's over the 1000's, and you can get them at CC for $600/pair. had 2 sales for that price in the last 2 months. and maybe put that savings into rt35i's in the rear rather than 25i's. i am running 35's and 25's as rears now, i think just the 25's may be a little weak paired with 800's/400 up front, but i like a full rear sound stage...

man, there are so many things that you could do........
If you don't mind used speakers and could do it, I would look at possibly gettting another pair of 10b's for rears and a CS400i. I think that would be pretty nifty and could be done, theoretically for about, say, 6 or 7 bills. Going on the high side, that leaves 8 left. Power amps, that would be my next move....one for the front speakers then one for the center...so on. Anything left over could be used for cables and interconnects.
That is just my .02

I will definately consider used stuff. Unfortunately my receiver doesn't have any pre-outs, so seperate amps would open a whole new can of worms. WAF very low.Make it Funky!
