my old klh speakers

am i crazy for thinking that for mid and tweets horns ,to my ears at least, seem to be the way to go.unlike speakers horns wont or dont seem to distort ever. i had what im pretty sure was an old set of ess hd-1000 speakers, dont remember where i got'em,but one of the ten inch woofers was rotted out. so i pulled the woofers and the crossover out of my old KLH's whose high end was kinda squeeky. ported them and wow i was amazed. sorry i started rambling was just wanting some feedback about pros and cons of horns vrs speaker

Are you saying that you want to put HORNs in a vintage KLH! IMO. Bad idea, totally alters the sound of the original. Looks like maybe you didn't like the KLH sound to begin with. Why not just buy some vintage Klipsch-horns and be done with it!

Not that it really matters because it's a clusterf**k either way, but he took the woofers and crossovers out of the KLH's and put them in what he thinks are ess hd-1000's, to which he also added ports.

I skipped ahead to the "...rambling" part too quickly. Yeah, even WORSE than what I thought originally! Worse than Frankensteins!

You put woofers into a different size cabinet and then ported the incorrect cabinet? How far back does this port go or is it just a hole in the cabinet? As long as you are amazed I guess.

Flapjacks sing underwater as the sky dims brightly! Am "I" crazy or what?

Oh, is THIS really just an AUDIO forum? Sorry! I left my KLH drivers in the back pocket of my skinny jeans! They sound so much better when I sit on them.

wow didnt intend to make anyone angry. really i was interested in learning the pros and cons of horns versus speakers. to address some concerns that folks seem to have for starters i put the klh woofers into the ess cabinets.they were both 10" woofers but the metal surround and whatnot on the klh speakers made them almost an inch bigger than the existing hole. i chose to enlarge the hole equally on the sides and not drop the hole at all.that put me ,what i felt was too close to the existing port so i cut the same size hole in the back and used the the biscuit left from my hole saw to patch the hole in the front. i then reused the same port tubes that were there. i would give anything to be able to afford an actual nice set of speakers but some of us have to make do with what we have. that pic that cnh posted is close but mine have two dials on the front but thanks for the effort. here is something that will probably piss everyone off even more the speakers in question are hooked to the stereo with cardis cables(www.cardas.com/welcome.php).

Way too many words with way too little punctuation and paragraphing in the original post, but -- based on replies & the context, I am inferring :- ) that the OP might be interested in the "Econowave" project(s).

What model KLH speakers did you have?
How about a photo of what you have going on.
