On Screen Display

My Dad has this notion that he would have to run every single video signal from his components through his new preamp to receive the right *on-screen-display.* I don't quite see this logic, shouldnt there be an output on the back for *On-Screen-Display* that would only require one cable directly to the TV to see the controls on screen?
Thanks for all the help.
BTW - His preamp is Outlaw 950.

There should be a paper thing in the box that has diagrams and writing all over it, give it a read.

I read the manual and it recomends running all the video cables through the Outlaw. Yet mentions little about its On-Screen-Display. So that is why I asked...
My Dad plans to buy 2 sets of component cables, ha - you know how much them things are...eh? lol

Trey,
Tell your dad to get the component video cables that are rated for HDTV and progressive scan.
Doc had a nice writeup on Club Polk about the Signal Cables that he bought but I think it got lost during the Polk hardware upgrade.
Here's another link over at HTF. Something that I was totally in the dark on until I read about it. Good stuff.

Personally, I like to bypass the AVR altogether and go straight to the tv. I think I'm paranoid that the video input will be altered someway or affect the audio section negatively. Of course this means I have an extra step and have to change the input on my tv say from watching tv to watching DVD but not a biggie for me. -
Yeah, I agree with you Paul. I run my DVD player straight to the TV. I don't believe in running it through other things.
My Dad purchased 13 feet of Monster component cable. lol
Hoosier, thanks!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
