Krell KRC-HR Class A pre amp with Reference Phono card. $3,450. This
is the later model with rounded FPB styling. Reason for sale is I bought a more
expensive pre amp. There is one dent on left top corner of face plate from
previous owner and some scratches, so based on Audiogon 7/10 as faceplate is
not perfect. I’d rate it 8/10.
There have been plenty of nice things said about the KRC-HR.
When they pop up for sale not many have the Reference phono card. The Reference
phono card (was $1,250 option) is MC only with four stages of user adjustable
gain (58dB to 76dB). It has eight loading settings (10 to 1K Ohms).
Ladder resistor volume control, four SE inputs
(only three available with installed phono card), two balanced inputs, one pair
balanced out, one pair RCA out, two gain stages, phase, balance and mute. Heavy
machined aluminum remote. (I installed four felt pads on back to prevent
scratching table top).
The original owner could not find the KRC-HR manual so I had
these downloaded manuals professionally printed at an office supply store on
24# paper with 110# paper covers and comb bound. A KPE Reference phono manual
is also included for procedure/settings of Reference phono board as that info
was not in the KRC-HR manual.
Also included is the standard AC power cord, remote, DC
power supply cable, T-10 Torx (for remote), T-15 Torx for pre amp cover and a
small regular screwdriver for recessed screw heads in umbilical cord thumb
screws. It will ship in original double box and packing.
The original owner told me he had sent it to Krell for a
volume issue late 2009. Krell repaired it and also recapped it (have receipt).
The original owner said he had moved and got another pre amp while waiting for
Krell to repair it. He said he got it back February 2010 and just left it in
the box until it was sold to me last year.
I received it and found the left channel dropped out at
12:00 on the volume knob and then returned at 12:30. It was returned to Krell where
they replaced the eight left channel analog volume chips that control the
ladder resistor volume. I have receipt for that too. (Krell would also tell you
repair history when you provide serial number). I’ve had no issues with it
since Krell returned it to me.
Very important, power supply must be connected to pre amp
before powering power supply. There is no on/off switch on pre amp, power
supply or remote. Money order / Certified check
must clear bank before shipping.
PayPal add 3%.
EDIT: Non smoking home, non smoking previous owner. Have hybrid cat but he don't mess with pre amp.

Rich is good people. Anything he sells is golden so better snatch this up quick.

It's a great sounding SS pre. One could do better with an external phono stage, all depends on your investment desire/% listening for vinyl.
$6K sounds like a fine mtn bike!

Every time I see that pre I'm struck by two things:
1) How handsome it is, and
2) How large (deep!!) it is.
Glad you got it sold.Jay
