Polk HT help
Hi. I am new here and wanted to get some opinions on a new home theater setup I am looking at purchasing. My new theater room will be approximately 17x18x8. I have been looking at the RTIA series and like the 7 or 9 series for fronts with Csia6 center and fxia6 rears. I would like to keep everything around $2.5k or less and I would most likely start piece buying now so I have everything by the time I move in. I have a Yamaha rx-a1040 already from previous house. Will this be overkill in a room this size, would you suggest something different? I am open to everything as I am still learning. I have always had surround with satellites as that is what space permitted but never a dedicated room to use. I also have a chance to pick up some used, 10 year or so old, LSI15's, LSIC center and LSI fx rears, all in good condition for under $1k. Do you think this is a good idea to start out and what would be a good price to offer? Thanks for any help.

If you are looking for HT, i would go for the RTIa series. Probably the 7s would be the best bet to power with an AVR. The LEi series are 4 ohm and much harder to drive.

Get the RTiA's and the A7's. Do not get the A9's with just an AVR. As deronb1 stated, the LSi's are 4 ohm. Your AVR will not be able to drive them.Political Correctness'.........defined

I'd get the LSi setup, buy a nice amp, buy some decent IC's and speaker cables, and sit back and enjoy an awesome system while counting the $$$ I saved
I'd offer $750, but I'd pay $1000 for a full LSi setup. Actually, I paid more than that for my LSi setup.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
I am not opposed to buying a amplifier and had plans to eventually get one anyway. With the LSI it would be sooner rather than later. I had it in my mind to start getting the a7 setup going and then the LSI came into equation and now I'm torn between the 2. I Just want to get the best for my money, this will be mostly movie watching. I'd say 95% movies, 5% music listening.

For movies. the RTIA series is probably better than the LSI's anyway. LSI's are more so a music speakers first and the RTIA series being a HT speaker first.HT SYSTEM-

Depends on your ears. I personally would get the LSi setup over the RTi series because I don't like the sound of the RTi series. As others have said, you will need a good external power amp to drive them. Would be nice if you could demo both speakers before hand. You can mod the LSi15 XO's and take them to a whole new level with savings.____________________________________________________________

One can do the same with the RTiA's. I did and they are a whole different speaker.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks for the comments. I came across a local pawn shop that has a pair of rtia7's for $500 and a csia6 for $180. I haven't seen them in person yet, trying to get over there this weekend, but the person I spoke to said they are in great condition and owner claimed to barely use them. Does this sound like a decent deal for used or should I offer something different? I've never really dealt with pawn shops, should this be something I consider or hold off and buy new?

I don't know what they normally sell for but there are some rtia 7's on our CL and they are asking $650 so your price doesn't seem too bad.
