Smart Watches and Mobile Platform Evaluation

I find it hard to believe we send people into space and back, talk to someone anywhere on the globe by a watch, but not turn sea water into drinkable water yet. That would have such a far reaching impact on the worlds populations than a over priced watch.
Tonyb, it is possible to turn see water into drinkable water but it can't be done for free. -

I've been on iPhones for a while, but Android is further along now and the hardware on the Samsung phones is nice enough now that I could use one of those as my daily driver. Ultimately the integration of the phone into the rest of my gear isn't nearly as important as the phone and the watch, so it's time to step back and evaluate each platform again give the options out there now.
Okay I didn't realize that. That makes this thread even more interesting. Although for me with my crazy life with 4 kids the integration with other devices is pretty important. I switched to an iphone (and ipad) after I got a macbook work machine so I could facetime and imessage the wife and kids from any device. So the android watch would have to be pretty friggin awesome for me to consider switching back at this point...

People will pay a premium for an Apple watch. They won't pay an extra penny
per gallon for water. That is the nature of people.
There was a time I would of been very excited to see a watch like this.
I certainly don't fault people for liking them. I like a lot of gadgets myself.
Dick Tracy stuff come to life. Now where's those flying cars?

Dick Tracy! Exactly!
Didn't realize Assimilated was a developer, etc. Makes more sense to me now. Test away and let's get that all-in-one watch out soon! Doesn't have to be super cheap but affordable.

So, back on track here...
I've still got to spend a lot of time learning each platform and see what they each have to offer, but after a few days doing some initial testing I have a few quick initial notes:
On the Apple Watch I actually prefer the smaller 38mm size watch, the 42mm is easier to read for me but the 38mm is easier to wear.
The LG Urbane is massive and is unfortunately less appealing in person than in the photos. That's very disappointing to me as it's the watch I expected to like the most out of the bunch, premium like the apple watch but with a round face which I typically prefer.
Right now the Motorola 360 is by far my favorite of the Android watches and may be my favorite overall, just need to spend more time now playing with both platforms. -
I've had my 42mm Apple Watch for a few weeks now. It's something that grows on you as you realize what it's capabilities are. A lot of it is convenience. What I do plan on using it a lot for coming up is to track my bike rides on trails. Sure, I can do that now using CycleMeter on my iPhone 6 Plus, but when i'm riding I have to keep my phone in my bag. As i'm riding, I have no idea how far i've gone and my time. I'd have to stop, pull my phone out of my bag and look. Now, I can keep riding and just quick glance at the watch. Also, I can track heart rate for my rides as well. Cyclemeter (better than Strava in my opinion) has done a lot of updates so it works with the Watch. From a quick glance on my Watch, I can see...
Ride Time
Distance
Calories Burned
Speed
Average Speed
Fastest Speed
Elevation
Ascent
Descent
Temperature and Humidity
This is all on one screen. As you swipe to the side, you access other screens with data.
Walking around while my iPhone is in my pocket, I get tapped on the wrist for alerts. I can quick check emails, texts, take a phone call, you name it...quickly from the watch.
This is not for everyone obviously. Then again, everything is not for everyone. Some people think spending 10's of thousands of dollars on audio equipment is pointless. It's all what you're into. You can be one of those that hates all this technology, or you can embrace what you want to embrace and use it to your liking and advantage.
Look forward to your review! No excuses! -

Well it certainly isn't hands-free.
