Off Topic, Ceiling Fan 'Noise'

Hello,
I am no ceiling fan expert or anything...

But just today, I dont know why. It sounds like the motor of my ceiling fan started making a gargle type noise as it spins, it just recently stopped, but it comes back. The ceiling fan is not even 4 months old and I was curious to know if anyone knew what the cause of the noise may be or what can be done to stop it?

Thanks,
Sid

My friend had the same problem. He found that it only did it intermittantly while the light bulb was on. I told him he was crazy but after going to the experts he found that the speed/light dimmer control was going bad. He replaced it and all the sounds went away.

My thoughts exactly. Just like tires on your car, fans go out of balance, and need to be re-adjusted.

Agreed. Make sure the blades and mast are all lined up and tight. With the power off give it a couple of spins by hand. If it wobbles or if the blades seem to return to the same position after a couple of tries, something is amiss. They sell weights (or make your own) to compensate.

I think madmax said it right. Is the fan on a dimmer switch of some sort? Check it out, it can go bad and cause a hum in the motor when on. I've recently had the same problem.

Hampton Bay fans are very nice and excellent quality. I suggest one of those. Lifetime warranty too.

Funny, I was just up on a ladder trying to figure out why my Hampton Bay ceiling fan isn't working.

The remote receiver (Hampton Bay) in the fan died.

But I suppose since the other three we have are just fine, I guess I can't complain....Too much.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

    hahaha

This is a funny thread. I do not even remember posting it.

I still have the same fan and it is actually a Hampton Bay...

I do not recall it making any more noise after this thread.
