I had the great pleasure of seeing the original band at the Fillmore East and they were mesmerizing. Robin Trower on a Les Paul and not Hendrixized at this time was one of the more fluent guitarist I'd seen. Then the interplay between Gary Brooker on B-3 and Mathew Fisher on piano was hypnotic.
The second go round w/ a reformed group not so much. No Fisher, no Trower, and they borrowed Dee Murray Elton John's long time bass player and it was awful.
