My plan is to "struggle along" with my Panasonic 65" until the 3rd generation 4K OLEDs come out in appx 2017 or 18.
Then I will get one in (probably) a 80 to 100 inch size and that will be the last TV I ever buy unless it fails. The 4K OLED that I have auditioned are from gen 1 and look so much better than any non OLED I am willing to wait. The 77" I looked at was 15K for those early, really rich adopters.
And for the people that want an extended warranty you can buy the Costco warranty for non Costco purchased merchandise. The most expensive, longest lasting one was only $99.95 -
Pretty happy bout my 55' 4k Sony as far as Best Buy/Magnolias 5 year warranty the $500 covers everything purchased we got the tv from Best Buy, the Onkyo from Magnolia, along with a freezer and a new Kindle fire all those items are covered for the 5 years with the $500 one time warranty/replacement if needed.
The only thing is you must have purchased all of those items at the same time when you purchased the Geek Squad Warranty plan, so no worries here for the next 4 years on any of those items. The Sony 4 ks have the best pictures in my opinions of all the ones I demoed!Home Theater

You guys with the Sony 850b's......hows sports on them ? Couldn't get the dude at BestBuy to turn the channel.....what a stroke. Basketball, Hockey, Football.....no motion blur ?
The more I read up, the more disappointed I am with most these 4k sets. Remember when computers first came out ? Slow loading times, limited storage space, slow software.....same crap all over again with these 4k sets. Some aren't even future proof so your really buying a 1080p set with a tad better picture and worst software.HT SYSTEM-

One more question for you guys with the 850b's......hows the black levels in the dark ? Read some reviews that said the 850b wasn't that great in a dark room and the blacks looked more grayish.
Or....is that just because some don't calibrate their sets properly. Some reviews I see even on other brands are obviously set up issues.HT SYSTEM-

The dynamic range in brightness and contrast levels is much better than it was several years ago but the 850B does not have Sony's top panel. It is edge lit LED while the next step up is local area dimming. The sets that offer area dimming are $6 to $8K though.
I never watch tv in a dark room and can't claim to be that concerned about getting the absolute best picture quality possible. I have no complaints for how I use the TV, which is usually in a brightly to moderately lit room. Black level is on par with my Panasonic plasma from around 9 years ago, but an edge lit LED screen will not get absolute black levels as the last plasma screens did.
I watch a lot of soccer and motion blur hasn't been an issue as it was from time to time with my previous LCD TV.

Invitation is still there Tony. Come see what a calibrated P Series Vizio can do and save yourself cash! Plus get 5 years of *in home repair* warranty for $90. (Since everyone else is enabling and all)
BTW, Chris Seymour of Seymour AV fame (12 screens at Skywalker Ranch alone!) made note of how incredible the black levels were on the P Series compared to some serious high dollar sets. He would even be willing to swing by and have a beer or 12 with us.

Would love to bro....but 10 hours round trip ? Man....lots of driving to have a few brews.
Every store I've been in with Vizio's, the picture looks more dull than the Sammy's or Sony's. They all can't be setting them up wrong. I'm not too concerned about streaming which seems to be were Sony falls down a bit compared to others. PQ is numero uno and those B series from Sony seem to have what I consider the closest Plasma like display available.
A 55 incher 850b goes for about 1500 anywhere. Vizio's 60 incher is a tad cheaper by a couple hundies. The 5 inches is no biggie to me, so in my warped mind only a couple hundies separate the Sony and the Vizio. Looks like I'll be on the hunt for the 850b.
Appreciate all your help guys. Frickin' TV comes at a time when I'm saving for a trip to Italy next year. Rome, Portofino, Chinqua Terre are on the menu and I can't stop drooling. May not come back either.....send for the dog.HT SYSTEM-

Strangely enough, Vizio is a fairly young American company that has other companies build its products. They are VERY competitive on price, especially providing sets with local dimming. Widespread reports of manufacturing defects are what would keep me from buying one of their TV sets as a primary display. When they work they seem to be a good deal though, and they do have multiple lines at different price levels and performance. At their higher prices they seem to be using technology that is very similar to Sony.
Sony XBR TV's are made in Mexico and have been for at least the last decade based on one I bought back then. I think a lot of other companies have manufacturing there too. Could be something to do with reducing transportation costs for the big screens or avoidance of Import duties into the U.S. My last Samsung TV was made in a plant in Mexico too.

Nah.....I'm not calling anyones baby ugly and personally, I don't really care where it's made or whats inside. Whatever gets me the best PQ wins in the end. Just like audio, brand names mean nothing per say, it's the sound that counts, and with TV's it's the pic that counts. IMHO.....Sammy and Sony are walking a few notches above the competition.
Wonder if I can get a few Taco's with my 850b ? Wouldn't hurt to ask.HT SYSTEM-

Vizio's are a sleeper; they are quite good sets that don't get the respect they deserve. I have 4 of them sprinkled through out the house in guest rooms and the patio. Keep in mind, I didn't pay much attention to what model they were, and didn't geek out on features--but I'm pleased with all of them. They all calibrated well with DVE on bluray.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

My wife can give you a preview of Rome for dinner while you are here. She spent 6 months in Italy training under 3 classic Italian chefs.
I am just throwing an option at ya man. I am very pleased with my Vizio and was disappointed with most sets in a store environment ("Store Demo" setting is what they all use so I wouldn't doubt all of them do indeed have settings borked)
As an aside, you owe it to yourself to visit Lake Como and Bologna.

Vizio. BHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, right, I supposed to take this seriously. Alright, so the good news is that Vizio stepped up their image-quality game BIG TIME post 2013. Seriously. They can give you a pretty big bang for the buck. BUT, and this is a big booty but, the reliability has gone to absolute ****. These TV's have a ridiculous return-rate, have been recalled due to fire hazards, and have shut down whole walls of product due to shorts from the power supplies (yes, even on their 4k models), and..and...and... Sure, a Vizio TV can look great - when it works..
It isn't that I don't believe you but can you cite some sources here? Is there a secret industry only recall listing that the general public can't see? Because I just went through the first 25 pages of this search and didn't find one mention of Vizio fire hazards recalls...
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=vizio+product+recalls
In fact, SaferProducts.gov which is the US Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall reporting site only reports a single recall for a stand defect on E series 39 and 42 inch models.
http://www.saferproducts.gov/Search/Result.aspx?dm=0&q=Vizio&srt=0&t=1
If you do a more vague search which includes both recalls and reports, you get a return of 39 hits. 1 is the recall, the other 38 are directly related to the recall.
http://www.saferproducts.gov/Search/Result.aspx?dm=0&q=Vizio&srt=0
The reliability thing is suspect too. Granted, I take Consumer Reports with a grain of salt but they put Vizio failure rate over the last 5 years ranging from 3-4%. Would it shock you to know that Sony, Samsung and Panasonic all have higher failure rates? Ironically, the best for reliability...Sharp.
I am not vehemently defending "my brand" but when you post something as fact but there is nothing to back it up (recalls that don't appear to exist), it makes your whole post somewhat suspect.
I have personally had great luck with Vizio, poor luck with Samsung, a Sharp that is still going strong 8 years in and counting. I have no input on Sony because the last product I owned from Sony was a 32inch tube TV. My dad's Panasonic was relatively inexpensive and makes him happy. My brother is a die-hard LG guy (I own LG appliances and my daughter has an LG BDP otherwise, no experience other than in store).
Tony, everyone has an opinion...and like butts, they all usually stink. Find what you like and run with it. The free beer offer is always open no matter what set you decide to purchase. Not going to judge you because you prefer a different brand TV than I do...it isn't like we are talking beer here...that would be where we could come to blows!

Zero,
Thanks for all that, it only confirms what I already know though.....it won't be cheap to get the same type of picture. For me personally, I'm satisfied with the PQ plasma presents......the wife wants a tad brighter and clearer picture. She's constantly hitting the Kuro into torch mode and I think that had something to do with the board going. I think motion lag on the LEDS is at an acceptable level anyway but only on the totl sets. Like I said, if you love your Plasma, the Sony 4k B series comes about as close as you'll get from any brand.
Anyone looking at Oleds.....yeah they look fantastic but suffer motion lag worse than Led's. Horrible on sports or fast action movies. Newer models with better processing may over come some of that but the newer models are usually used car kinda prices.HT SYSTEM-

Thanks for the response Zero. It makes your initial post easier to "stomach".
Obviously, no one likes to have their baby called ugly but I am glad you didn't take my post as such.
I can only relate my personal experience with Vizio products since 2008 when I first purchased the brand. I keep going back to it because I have yet to have a bad experience with it.
That being said, I appreciate you taking the time to explain yourself."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

My Vizio experience goes something like this....it is a "budget" HDTV (the models I buy) because they are going in guestrooms, garage, patio; that kind of duty. I was pleasantly surprised that they calibrated well--as I have had a 32" Sanyo and (can't recall the brand off-hand) that simply would NOT calibrate in some areas, that were significantly more expensive. I had to bring the Sanyo color down to "4" to get in the neighborhood of correct color, and a setting of "3" changed the screen to black and white.
I have no false impressions that the Vizio models I'm buying are giant killers---far from it---but the value is very good. My main set is a 60" Panasonic plasma, so this is the base line from which I'm judging. I figured if Vizio's budget models are this respectable, their higher end models are likely quite nice.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
