What are the knobs on top of everything?

I am pretty sure they are not knobs, are they some kind of vibration dampers?

I would like to think that those kabillion dollar amps would not have the nerve to vibrate lol.

Everything vibrates. I suspect that is solid wood rack with steel support rods, and footers under the gear are draining vibrations into the wood.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Though I don't think even a modest setup sounds BAD. Bad is laptop/TV speakers and such.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Love Ken's answer...LOL
They are called cable elevators. Many choices to be had, so time to hit Google.

Jesse I am talking about the disc sitting on top of the components. My AVR top vibrates like crazy and I don't want to put a stress ball on it, what if it breaks open? I put a stress ball on my TT cover to stop the vibration.

I too would like validation from a far more educated user than the previous poster. I'll buy a set and put them on my head. Lots of noises in there. Maybe those will tone them down and then I'll rub the included one litre bottle of snake oil on my legs.

What about Synergistic Research's HFT X:
A further upgrade can be achieved by putting another HFT-X on the top of each speaker (pointed up), with another HFT-X attached to the center of the wall behind the speakers about as high as you can reach.

Maybe you need to further explain why your avr vibrates like crazy. I've never seen one do that unless it was sitting on top of the subwoofer. Seriously man, if the receiver is shaking in it's boots, something is out of wack from the stability of the rack or proximity to the subs.HT SYSTEM-

Bruce, are you are having issues with noises from vibration, buzzing, rattling etc. If so and if you don't have major heating issues. Take a look at dynamating the chassis sides and around the spots where the covers and side panels meet.
There's a thread around here but I'm too lazy to look. -
Shoot...! I talked audio. Everybody keep quiet about it. Still a secret.
-
Tony I believe it is just a sympathetic vibration just like in the TT lid. The TT platform is very well isolated but the lid will hum at certain frequencies. There is not much vibration at all coming through the floor to the rack. When I get some more vibration pads I will put them under the feet (I just ordered another crate of them) Besides is it just a cheesy piece of screw on grill work. I am surprised that Yamaha used such a flimsy piece considering that they braced the chassis and put an extra foot on it to control vibration. I am not going to spend a ton of money on this. Like I said the stress balls work but I would hate to find my AVR full of sand or what ever that gunk is thats in them.

I just did a comparison, I thought it was just the top of the AVR and that the grill was a separate piece, it is not. The sheet metal that the enclosure is made of is really thin compared to all of my other gear, it does not thump like the other stuff it sounds like a drum.
-
Yep probably 16-20 gauge stamped and pressed. Acts like a resonator. See if that link above has anti-gravity levitating pads. That way your AVR will just float in mid-air. You may still get some feedback from the cables on the back. But shiny side out aluminum foil wrapped around them will fix that.
-
Bruce,
If the sheet metal on the AVR is that thin, I'm shocked. Never experienced that with any I've owned.
A simpler fix, and depending on how thin that top is, is to simply put a weight on top which can be anything as long as it doesn't cover any vent holes/slots. A paper weight, thin piece of granite, a granite/ceramic tile, heavy piece of sheet metal, a small tray filled with colorful rocks even. I would however make sure whatever you use extends to the outside corners of the receiver for support. You can always use felt under whatever you use so not to scratch the top of the receiver.
You can also try stacking another piece of gear on it but given how thin that top is, maybe not the best idea.HT SYSTEM-

I ordered another box of the little blue vbration pads to put under my equipment maybe those will help. Wth they are like 20 bucks for a few dozen.
