I want to know if I can put my RTi4's right on the middle shelf of my bookcase, or do they have to have the back and sides clear and have to go on top of the book shelf?
If I can put them on the middle shelf, can it be right next to my receiver?

Sure.... do whatever you want. If it doesn't sound good... change it.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Keep in mind if you put them relatively close together you will loose some imaging.....

yeah. michael_w is right.. if you can keep them farther apart than just a few feet. placing them 6 ft apart or more will give you the best imaging and front sound stage.

My speakers will be 7-8 feet apart. Have a 51" Sony with bookshelves on both sides.

    Thanks for the replies.
