Using NAD 7600 as power amp for HT and integrated amp for 2 channel

I am using an NAD 7600 as a power amp for my front left and right for my system right now with my pioneer vsx9040 being the brains. I do have my CD player hooked up to the NAD which then is connected to the pioneer and the preouts from pioneer then go back to the NAD. I have it set up like this because I prefer the tone controls of the NAD. Ideally I would not use the pioneer for CD at all, however it is a HT and 2 channel system. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to just use the NAD for cd without having to go through the pioneer and use the NAD as a power amp for the pioneer for HT. Is there an input on the 7600 that would allow the pioneer to control volume and the NAD to act as just a power amp. I know there are lab and normal inputs to the NAD power amp section, but from what I know, it is a bad idea to have both hooked up to something.

If you want to control volume with the pioneer, then you have to go through it for cd playback somehow.

I'd sell both and get a better receiver. The newer Pioneer SC models are nice and used are quite the bargain. Wanting to use tone controls simply means something in your system isn't up to snuff to the point you want to cover it up or take it away.....or add what isn't there.

+1. I haven't used tone controls in more than 20 years. As my gear improved, I found there was less and less need for tonal adjustments.

I use the tone controls when listening at lower volumes, I find it helps bring the bass up a little bit...and with three little ones in the house, the time I can usually enjoy music undisturbed is when they asleep and that usually means I am listening to it at a lower volume. At regular and loud volumes I bypass tone controls.

You can do that on most any receiver these days, kick up the bass that is.

The only way to not go through the Pioneer you have now is to get a 2 channel preamp with HT bypass, which as far as music goes is probably a better solution than getting a better AVR. Depending on the 2 channel preamp, anyway.

Initially I was using the tone control on the pioneer, but I didn't like the sound of it. I think it could be that I prefer the warmer sound of the NAD. I am resisting the temptation of a new receiver....blew budget on the new lsim fronts and centre! Man being on this forum is getting expensive  Everyone always has great input and great sense of community.
