RC80i rubbing coil

Is it possible to fix a rubbing coil on a RC80i speaker? I have a slight distortion at low volumes, at high volumes, the sound overpowers the distortion. I confirmed it's a rubbing coil. Is it risky to open up the speaker and get it fixed myself?

    Hello,
Welcome to Polk's forum. Most of the time in-wall speakers can be taken apart and replacement components can be replaced. Contact Polk's CS department at: 1-800-377-7655 and they can guide you through self-service.

    Hi,
Thank you for your warm welcome. The speakers are practically new, I can't understand how the coil is rubbing. I bought them from America and I got a friend to deliver them to Malta, Europe. Could be they got knocked on delivery. I think it will be a problem to buy components here in Malta as they are quite rare. I had e-mailed Polk Audio any they told me they can't do anything about it because the speakers were bought from an unauthorized dealer. Is there any D.I.Y. fix. I read quite a lot on the internet that people do them themselves.
    Regards,

    Simon

    Hello,
That's a shame the speaker has a problem. You would have to purchase the replacement driver from Polk's CS then have it sent to Malta. Then it is pretty simple to remove the old driver and replace it.
