Squeezebox Radio or Boom

Looking to buy a gently used Squeezebox radio or Boom to use for my daughters room. She's having trouble getting to sleep lately and we are going to try music to help.

I've already got a Squeezebox classic and the Squeezebox server installed so this ties in easy hence wanting this over a sonos or the like. Not looking to spend a fortune but if you've got one you'd be willing to part with let me know.

Must be the player and radio together, not trying to setup a HiFi system up in there.... Yet

From what I read it wont, mostly because it doesn't utilize the same software as the older squeezeboxes so it wouldn't integrate right.

Stinks as its a good deal.

That said I'm watching some Squeezebox Radio's on eBay right now and they seem to be going around 100 bucks + shipping which isnt too bad.

I just trust this forum more when it comes to buying used, so I figured I'd throw out a feeler just in case.

You sure about that? I think the UE Radio running a Squeezebox firmware should be perfect. The UE Radio was just the Squeezebox Radio with a dumbed down firmware.

God it just kills me how Logitech ruined the Squeezebox.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Nope, it wasnt that simple, seriously wish it was.
The Bad: The UE Smart Radio is more expensive than many Bluetooth speakers and requires a Wi-Fi connection to work, which makes it somewhat less portable. You're also reliant on Logitech to add support for new streaming-music services, rather than simply using the app already on your phone. And hard-core Squeezebox fans will lament the lack of interoperability with existing Squeezebox products.
Squeezebox enthusiasts also have a point that the UE Smart Radio is somewhat of a downgrade from the existing Squeezebox Radio: it requires an Internet connection to play back even local media, it loses a lot of geekier customization options, and it doesn't work with the existing Squeezebox ecosystem of products.
    (source - CNet)
If you are a mixed Squeezebox household, I wanted to make sure you knew that while the Logitech UE Smart Radio can play alongside existing Logitech Squeezebox products, it will operate and be controlled separately.

    Souce - Logitech directly

Yes but that doesn't take into account that this particular one for sale in CL is running the Squeezebox firmware, not the UE Radio firmware. Call the seller and ask him. Either the thing can connect to a local squeeze server and play music from your own hard drive or it can't. No reason why the UE Radio shouldn't work fine if you can install the Squeezebox firmware.

Yeah, I sent him a email message as the way its worded is a bit ambiguous "Squeezebox Firmware".

I asked him it was running the firmware that would allow it to work with the Squeezebox Server program like the Squeezebox Classics do, and if so how he modified it to do so.

Depending on how he answers we will see. I dont want to make assumptions here since that listing isnt local to me so I'd need to get someone else to pickup and then ship it which is possible, but also there really is no way to return if its not what I wanted.

With eBay thats a bit easier if they say it works with the Squeezebox Server and it doesnt

And if it does, then I will likely snatch it up

And he got back to me with the "right" answer which is that the logitech website lets him switch between the two.....

    Now how to acquire it...

Mike if it's not far out of your way I would definitely take it! And I don't even need it, I already have two. But can't pass it up at that price.

Wow, I didn't realize you could tag people in posts like that. Finally found a feature in the new forum that I actually like! Thanks for the tip!

No problem. It is a nice feature as that way they get notified without having to use a PM. I'm watching a couple on eBay that are around that price as well so hoping to snag one of those.

That's too far, not worth driving 30 miles each way for this. Would be a great purchase but it's not like I need the thing. I already have two plus a squeezebox touch. If it were easy to grab that'd be one thing but I wouldn't ask you to connect with someone that far away.
