Set the LSIM 705s and 706c to "small" or "large"?

I am using the LSIM 705s and 706c in a Multichannel Ht system that is also configured to serve 2.1 - channel Stereo listening duties (I use the 702 f/x's as surrounds for HT, and when necessary, for 5.1 multichannel stereo listening. I am using the Emotiva XMC-1 as a prepro in this system, and I am wondering whether it is best to set up the front speakers as "large" or "small" for both 2-channel and/or 5.1 duties, if I also have a couple of decent subs attached to the system. I use this system 60-80% for music, and 20-40% for movies, depending on the time of the year, and how busy with work I am.

I understand that there might not be ready-made one-size fits all answers for these questions, but I would like to know what is commonly done under such circumstances

    What I normally do is set everything to "small," and set the crossover to 80hz, but that is because I know that is the THX standard practice and I want to play it safe... I just don't know whether I am getting the optimum sq performance from my rig when set up this way, though.

    I would use large for 2 channel, and lower your crossover to 40-60 Hz range, whatever sounds best to your ears. May even want to try large with HT duty.

    Small and 80 Hz is a guide , much like everything. Your rig, your rules, whatever your ears like is what your looking for.

    Of course nothing is set in stone but if you have dual quality subs then you're on your way to fabulous 2 channel & HT sound. Calibration & placement is key or else it's all for naught. This is always a touchy subject but when done right there's no going back to subless (is that even a word?) listening. Play around & have fun...your ears will tell you what's right. Do a search there's plenty more on the subject.

    Small for HT with the subs. Large for stereo and no subs needed with the 705's unless you're listening to organ music.
