Set the LSIM 705s and 706c to "small" or "large"?

I am using the LSIM 705s and 706c in a Multichannel Ht system that is also configured to serve 2.1 - channel Stereo listening duties (I use the 702 f/x's as surrounds for HT, and when necessary, for 5.1 multichannel stereo listening. I am using the Emotiva XMC-1 as a prepro in this system, and I am wondering whether it is best to set up the front speakers as "large" or "small" for both 2-channel and/or 5.1 duties, if I also have a couple of decent subs attached to the system. I use this system 60-80% for music, and 20-40% for movies, depending on the time of the year, and how busy with work I am.

I understand that there might not be ready-made one-size fits all answers for these questions, but I would like to know what is commonly done under such circumstances

What I normally do is set everything to "small," and set the crossover to 80hz, but that is because I know that is the THX standard practice and I want to play it safe... I just don't know whether I am getting the optimum sq performance from my rig when set up this way, though.

I would use large for 2 channel, and lower your crossover to 40-60 Hz range, whatever sounds best to your ears. May even want to try large with HT duty.

Small and 80 Hz is a guide , much like everything. Your rig, your rules, whatever your ears like is what your looking for.

Small baby small at 60/80 XO. Here's a great article that gives a nice explanation. .http://www.ecoustics.com/articles/set-speakers-small-receiver-setup/
Of course nothing is set in stone but if you have dual quality subs then you're on your way to fabulous 2 channel & HT sound. Calibration & placement is key or else it's all for naught. This is always a touchy subject but when done right there's no going back to subless (is that even a word?) listening. Play around & have fun...your ears will tell you what's right. Do a search there's plenty more on the subject.

Small for HT with the subs. Large for stereo and no subs needed with the 705's unless you're listening to organ music.
