I drink a few toasts to Jimmy Doolittle and his brave crews in thanks for their visiting a little payback on the Nippon Empire for their acts of December 1941 in Hawaii. Cheers to them ! :)

Thanks for the reminder on that. I will be grilling up some baby backs and a missing man formation of frosty long necks standing by.

We need to do a much better job of remembering these men, and every other servicemember that laid life and limb on the line for our freedoms.

Raise a glass to Lt. Col. Doolittle and his daring raiders, who first brought vengeance on the Japanese homeland! Three cheers!

Coincidentally, April 18 is also my late father's birthday. He would have been 109 on 18 April 2015. May he rest in peace!

Just launching those 24's off a pitching carrier deck was a feat in itself...I salute all those brave crews...Their mission...and the fact that Japan lost face that day which was far worse than the actual battle damage...Here Here!!

That raid may have led directly to Japan's defeat, as it forced them to re-think every move they made. They held back men and material from deploying to the Coral Sea, and forced them to make other strategic errors by spreading themselves too thin all in an effort to protect the homeland. Doolittle and his men shortened the war by showing the Japanese, and Americans, that they were not out of reach. April 18th is the day Japan and Americans knew the eventual outcome of the Pacific war...

Too bad it took another three years for them to accept it.

Well..if that raid didn't do it,then Midway surely did...After Midway,Japan could not wage war in the Pacific theater other than suicidal...

Thank you so much for the heads up gdb. I had received this week an email from Lt. Col. Richard E. Cole ,one of the surviving members of Doolittle Tokyo Raiders. He informed me that The American Veteran's Center is filming a documentary about the stories of the 80 men who were part of Doolittle Tokyo Raiders. Basically telling the story of the planning, carrying out, and aftermath of The Raid.It also it tells the stories about the individuals lives that day of the raid , and months after and how it tied the men together as a unit through the many decades after WW2 that followed. The AVC could use some donations to finish editing the film, looking forward to seeing this dvd sometime this summer. More information on this documentary at the American Veteran's Center website.

    You don't mess with Shangri-La.

Catch the old movies "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" and "The Purple Heart". Both made during the war I believe.
