My daughter wants to use the home network to get Pandora in her bedroom wireless. She has an older avr so I thought getting a cheap dvd player with the Pandora app may be the cheapest way to go?

Does her older AVR have HDMI input? If it does, a $30-35 Chromecast player would be perfect. You would only need to hook it up to a TV for the initial setup. As long as you name it something unique it would be easy to find if you happen to have other Chromecasts on the network.Ludicrous gibs!

There are even Chromecast adapters for amps that don't have hdmi. They're ugly but do the trick and cost around $20.Main System:
Front: SDA 2ATLs
Center: CS2
Surround: M40s
Sub: PSW505
Receiver: Pioneer VSX-1121k
Amp: Carver AV 705x
TV: Samsung LN52A650
Media Player: Chromecast/Boxee Box
BD Player: Sony BDP-S470
Consoles: Xbox360, Wii U -
Yeah, something like this - http://www.amazon.com/Panlong-Extractor-Converter-Digital-Chromecast/dp/B00DMZOUVK
But that almost doubles the investment. Still not a terrible amount of money, but it'd be easier if the AVR had HDMI inLudicrous gibs! -
If her computer has Bluetooth and is 30' or less from the receiver, here you go. Often on sale for less than $30.

She doesn't have a smart phone, iPod touch, or a computer/laptop? I think Roku is your cheapest option.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

AVR does not have HDMI. I think one of the above will work better than a dvd player since she may not have a TV in the room.Yep, my name really is Bob.

No TV, eh. Find a used iPod Touch or Android device. There are iPod Touches on my local craigslist for as cheap as $35 and older Android camera phones for even $20. Either would run Pandora and sound fine for a kid.
Edit: Then she has the benefit of having a portable device that can be listened to on headphones. Two-ferafterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

...and you'll need something like this:

You will need a TV to use the Roku. If there is no TV and no HDMI, then the Grace Digital GDI IRA500 noted above would probably be your cheapest option.
How is that the cheapest option of what is listed? Are you on commision or something?--Gary--
