Replacing my tube amps...

With all the talk of commercial grade amps being superior to tube amps, or even the mega-bux amps from Krell and Pass, I have decided to dump my tube amps and get me a pair of these...

http://www.crownaudio.com/media/pdf/legacy/belchfire_datasheet.pdf

Everybody knows that Crown makes the best amps in the world, so I think I will be in for a real treat when I get these home. 14,000 watts of power should take my trusty old SDA's to new sonic heights!
The Gear... Carver "Statement" Mono-blocks, Mcintosh C2300 Arcam AVR20, Oppo UDP-203 4K Blu-ray player, Sony XBR70x850B 4k, Polk Audio Legend L800 with height modules, L400 Center Channel Polk audio AB800 "in-wall" surrounds. Marantz MM7025 stereo amp. Simaudio Moon 680d DSD

50% THD at max wattage rating? I've never seen anything like that.

And I was going to offer to help you out by carrying away your old, terrible tube amps.

Wasn't even going to charge you for gas. :)

The funny thing is until I read the "ad" I was thinking about how decent my four DC300a's sounded with the tri amped Ubangi system (used a Phase Linear for the bass end. Also ran the mids (375's with a JBL multi cell horn) and high end (075's on a fan radiator) using four Marantz 9's

So much stuff i wish I had never sold. Cars, hi-fi, guns........the list is endless.

It's more than a week after April first.

Here's a modest proposal* -- why not go solid state and minimalist at the same time. I could clone you one of these. Teflon-insulated cryo'd wiring, Vishay resistors, top-flight capacitors... jawdropping sonics. The trick is to find audiophile-grade flashlight batteries to get that background noise floor as black as possible.

Your choice of three. Add a pair of Lowthers and you'll be all set.

I always KNEW you were a CROWN man, John, infiltrating the Polk forums with the pretense of building some Carver mono block tube amps while you were secretly running a STACK of CROWNS all the time! Sinister! lol

Dear Noos..... It has come to my attention that you are going to need a substantial energy source to feed your new amp's.
In my spare time I designed and built a matter-antimatter converter that should be able to provide your new babies with all the nourishment they need. It isn't cheap but you are going to save a lot on the electrical bill since all the external power it need is the one that maintain the magnetic chamber active.
Please be aware that any loss of this power will cause the collapse of this magnetic field, matter and antimatter will collide and produce a single point singularity (otherwise known as a Black Hole) that summarily will devour our entire solar system.
IF you don't believe me, just ask the crew of the Enterprise, ever so worry about this happening to them.
For this reason, it is suggested that you always maintain a running hybrid car (not included) on hand, and please, be diligent using the battery jumpers that come included in the shipping container.

Those old Crown power amplifiers (D-75, D-150 and DC-300) are actually not too awful sounding at all... and they're pretty much indestructible.

The IC-150, on the other hand... is widely held to be one of the worst-sounding preamps extant. The only other serious competitor would be the Dynaco PAT-4. Ironically enough, I have one of those, too... is it any wonder that I take a somewhat jaundiced view of active preamps? ;- )

What's the matter with you people, this a serious discussion about the unbelievable latest BS...excuse me... BF6000 Crown Amplifier and you end up talking about things that use tubes and don't have remote controls?.
What is our hobby coming to?
My prediction is that soon most people (including <5 year olds) will be listening to music on a small hand held device that even could double as a Telephone/Radio/Color TV/Message Center/Driving map/Scientific Calculator/Whether Adviser/Tell Big Brother where you are and who you are talking to and about what at all times/watch ****/remind you that tomorrow is your birthday/take pictures and film movies of everybody and everything and send it instantly all over the world/where the nearest bathroom is and WTF men, the list goes on and on and everything in full HD and full HiFi sound with just a pair of miniature speakers inserted in their ears and all will cost less than a Russian made 6L6)!!
Don't laugh, you'll see, is going to happen!!.
    Just ask your children.

Luisv113, what you say may come true for millions who don't know how to EXPERIENCE music and movies personally or in very small congregations of friends and fellow hobbyists. But why are album sales increasing year after year again ? It's because of us. not you. You need to go to what's the newest so called coolest electronic fad . com forum. Most of us are over 40 and still like the way things functioned and sounded from our past. Sure , a lot of us have adopted the newest TECH gear to assist our listening and viewing pleasure according to our budgets. Some of us HAVE to stay analog if you want to call it that. But still, don't condemn somebody elses HOBBY. Get with your own hobbyists and fad followers and enjoy your newest things. But you'll miss out on some fun and soul moving experiences with out earbuds in your ears. Earbuds are great too but some of us like to feel the music in our bones at home. Have you heard some good or great audio gear and speakers like we have ?

Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
