Which would be a better idea?

An isolation transformer or a line conditioner.

The stereo I have at work picks up some low level noises at times due to pretty beefy transformers the size of faster100's new SVS sub.

A line conditioner will keep voltage drops from causing a problem and some, not all, have noise suppression circuitry in them.

An isolation transformer won't necessarily protect against power surges or voltage drops but they will eliminate virtually all noise, including those pesky 60 Hz cycles from typical AC power sources.

So which one would you think is a better idea for my work rig? The noise can be problem but power surges and drops, while very infrequent, do occur. When they do occur, it's because the UPS in the corner (about the size of a Geo Metro) is kicking on because we lost power. Beyond that, the power in the building comes from our own power grid with a direct tap to the power company. Once it enters the building, it is conditioned and ups'ed. The problem lies in the old wiring in the walls and floors. It's still good and works just fine, totally safe. It's just not up to modern standards but since the building I am in is classified as a ship hull test frame and not an actual office building, there has been no requirement to update it.
