Bad teeth practice and diabetes has taken its final swipe at my teeth and its full denture time So, would like to know what other people have done to get use to them......what to eat at the start besides smoothies....best adhesive.....how to work with them at the beginning so I can actually talk halfway decently etc....you can pm me also in case you feel better doing it that way.
Thoughts and tips much appreciated!

Implants would be nice but because of the diabetes I do not have enough bone left to ensure that they would work for any length of time...Computer room Hegeman 1 SpeakersM&K VX-80 subKenwood DP-7010Cambridge Audio CXC Transport Rega DACPrimaLuna Prologue Four AmpAric Audio Tube PreampGarage Jennings Research SquareCustom tube preampCrown XLS-1000Denon DCD-1500II Modded MSB Link DAC

Once you get past the gagging there really no big deal. I use Fixodent powder, works best for me. Talking only sounds funny when your not wearing them. The temporary ones they give you to begin with kinda suck but once your gums heal and you get the permanent ones there no big deal.

So true. And that is only if you have healthy gums and bone. If not it will cost a whole lot more, and most of it is NOT covered by insurance.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
It ain't so bad. I've had them for about 8 years now (bad teeth and no money to get the implants). Plates were the most cost effective solution. You'll get used to them pretty quick. If they make good castings, the upper plate should fit well enough that you won't need adhesive. I don't like the bottom plate, so I just don't wear the damn thing. The only thing I have to stay away from eating are things like nuts (shut it), and crunchy stuff. Take care to keep them clean (polident every morning) and whatever you do, don't drop 'em in the sink. I've broken mine like that.
Good luck, and remember to smile!-Kevin

Heck Cathy, Dental insurance covers jack anyway. I don't know what it is about dental insurance, but coverage sucks between even the best policies.

I hear you on that. I still have all my upper teeth but after having a bad problem with the lower teeth I had to have them all pulled. Trouble stated in my teens. I can't tell you all the money I've spent in my life trying to save my teeth. I hate my denture and don't wear it. Unless I tell people I have no bottom teeth they have no idea. I have more trouble speaking with the d-a-n-m thing in than with it out.
Best of luck Starkiller that totally sucks.

Although I do not have dentures, I do have type 1 Diabetes. Might I suggest getting your H1C as close to 5.3-5.8 as possible. That will help prevent further damage to your body (i.e. kidneys, rhetinas, blood vessels leading to amputations of toes/feet, legs) etc.). I have had type 1 diabetes for 31 years now. Trust me starkiller, I know it's a **** to control. Regardless, it needs to be done. Blood sugar control is done through testing, diet, excercise, and medication. Put the effort into control of your bloodsugar, there IS a payoff.
I have lost an upper molar from biting down too hard on a spoon during an extreme hypoglycemic episode and someone giving me honey on a spoon. The tooth literally shattered in my mouth. Other than that, after 31 years, my teeth are pretty healthy. my H1C's are consistantly 5.2-5.4 for the last 22 years. This makes the difference. It's a hell of a lot of work, but your body is much healthier as a result.
That said, I am sorry you have to get dentures and I wish you the best from here on out. Do the absolute best you can do with your bloodsugar starkiller.

Sure did Fred. Actually, I meant HA1C. (Hemoglobin A1C). Thanks for the correction.

I am glad you have gotten it down, but there is always room for improvement. I hope you understand my intent. I am not trying to stress you out, but to have you be as healthy as you can be.

Yeah I know Got labs done the other day and its now 6.6 so getting there. Anyway, wish me luck as the procedure is tomorrow. Its sedation time and they have me monitored because of that and because of the fact I had to discontinue my Coumadin for a few days as a result of possible bleeding issues.Computer room Hegeman 1 SpeakersM&K VX-80 subKenwood DP-7010Cambridge Audio CXC Transport Rega DACPrimaLuna Prologue Four AmpAric Audio Tube PreampGarage Jennings Research SquareCustom tube preampCrown XLS-1000Denon DCD-1500II Modded MSB Link DAC

Well, it went. Between shots and pills didn't feel a thing but by jove I sure do now Have to sear them all the rest of the day and night and then go in tomorrow morning to the denture maker to get them adjusted. Can't even take them out out to brush Still pretty woozy as this note took me a long time to write even. Anywaym thanks for all the good vibes...my wife and I really appreciated it!

Well, today was drag as I went to the denture doc for some minor adjustments. Well, anything but minor as the pain that was involved taking them out and putting them back in was, well, rather incredible. Not only that but he thinks that a bone spur I have might need to be "filed" down or removed and that sure doesn't sound fun at all.Computer room Hegeman 1 SpeakersM&K VX-80 subKenwood DP-7010Cambridge Audio CXC Transport Rega DACPrimaLuna Prologue Four AmpAric Audio Tube PreampGarage Jennings Research SquareCustom tube preampCrown XLS-1000Denon DCD-1500II Modded MSB Link DAC
