In the market for a 55" to 60". Like to stay with a reputable brand ( lg, Samsung, Sony, panny)

$500-$700 budget.

Don't need 3d or 4k.

1080p

Will be wall mounted in the upstairs living room with a fair amount of ambient light.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Did you consider 60" Vizio E series LED's at all?

Not necessarily opposed to Vizio and not trying to be snobby but would probably be lower on my list depending on the price.

I saw on Slickdeals that Best Buy has the Samsung 60" plasma on sale right now for $680. Only 2 HDMI but a good deal.

Of course the ambient light factor may be a consideration......

In that category the Panasonics will probably provide you with the most value in terms of performance, picture, price and reliability. My son picked one up recently at a bargain, on my suggestion, and he's been very happy.

    Happy hunting!

If ambient light was not a concern, I would suggest a 1080p projector. Good ones go for around that price.
But check microcenter and fry's as well, they do run good sales on the TVs all the time.
I would stick with samsung, sony or LG for LEDs. Vizio is not bad either. If you are considering plasma, panasonic would be ideal. Plasma's are coming to the end of their life cycle, so I would be a little weary about venturing there. But for color separation (considering you are using it in bright light), plasma TV are the best option.

I've got a projector in the basement :) This would be for the upstairs living room.

    We've decided on a 60".

    Amazon pricing...
LG 5200 or 5900 are both in the $800 range.
    Samsung H6203 is around $900.
Sony KDL60R510A is around $915. (bad reviews)
Vizio E600i-B3 is close to $930.

I was just looking at that and it looks highly reviewed by users on Amazon. Looks like similar specs to the 5200, but maybe newer?

I know nothing about this, but the 5200 has a "motion clarity index" of 480. The 5900 is half of that at 240.....Is that a big deal?

    The 5900 is also 480...

It is a 120 htz native refresh rate, and better smart functions and I think an extra hdmi...

On that list, my vote goes to LG 5900 as well. Good luck with your purchase.

You almost can't go by those published htz numbers, they are about as dubious as receiver power ratings. It's all about the processor and that will dictate the dreaded motion blur associated with lcd/led TV's.

Get the tv with the best processor you can afford.

I know I'm jumping around a bit here but...

Anyone have an LG 60 PB 5600?

    It's a plasma.

We currently have a 50" plasma in the space and glare/brightness isn't an issue.

Reviews say picture quality is great and the 'sports blur' is minimal to none.

Bear with me as I'm thinking this through out loud...

We currently have an LG plasma going on 6 years w/no problems.

I was just thinking since plasma's were on the way out, LED would make sense, but the more I'm researching...a plasma may be better for my needs.

I'm most concerned about the 'motion blur' that I've seen on some newer LED's.

The ambient light isn't a factor now since we already have a plasma in there just fine, and I'm not sure I want a super bright 60" tv in the living room anyways.

I have a LG 60pa6500 it's been excellent for the 2years I've had it. I would say it is as bright as any plasma and is considered one of the better plasma tv's for bright rooms. I admit that the black level isn't as dark as the panny's but still pretty good.

No doubt Plasma's are on the way out, but why kick it to the curb if it's still fully functional ? If you can wait a year, the newer 4k sets will have come down to real world prices. If you go standard 1080p lcd/led, deals are had everywhere, but do your research. TOTL sets do ok with motion blur, lessor quality sets don't. Plus their screens are more reflective. Bottom line is, don't go cheap on an LCD 1080p set, you may find yourself disappointed.

TOTL lcd/led sets on craigslist are being sold for cheap, people are dumping them for the newer 4k models. By me, a few places are selling their demo 4k 55 inchers, Samsung-LG for 1200.

Order placed on the LG 5600.

@tonyb .. We rearranged things in the LR and need to wall-mount the TV. Wife said if we are mounting one, she didn't want me switching it out anytime soon, so maybe look at a new one. How can I argue with that :)

We'll move the current one to the bedroom.

The more research I did, the more I realized what you said. The entry level LCD seemed to have mixed reviews and I didn't have the budget to move up the line.

Hopefully, we'll have a good experience with this LG as the last one...
