Generic advice is that optical introduces two additional stages of possible distortion; electrical to optical conversion, and optical to electrical conversion.
AES digital probably does not make much difference until you get into higher end, more revealing gear. Even then, it probably is minor. Just depends on how much detail you are trying to extract.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
