Which LSiM703 is nicer? Cherry or Mahogany?

For those who have seen both, which color is nicer? The Mahogany looks like piano black on the website, is this accurate?

Thanks

The Cherry version is cherry in color only, it is not cherry wood veneer. It would be my pick of the two. Shame they didn't use the cherry veneer used on the RTiA series. The Midnight Mahogany is a heavy black toner coat over something, perhaps the cherry color. The result in bright light is a purple hue, otherwise they appear black.

Then go with the darker color. It looks sort of espresso in color to me.

F1 is right on with the 'purple' remark. A dark purple/brown hue for sure.

But as he said unless you are up close or bright lights they pretty much look black.

I have mostly espresso furniture and they look very nice. I imagine the cherry would be more striking but would look out of place in my space.

Depends on what sound out you like. The mahogany has a darker sound. Maybe richer.

That pic shows a brown under tone, which is not accurate.

I prefer the cherry, but like you the rest of my furnishing lends itself more towards the midnight mahogany. Thus, I own the midnight mahogany.

I agree with the espresso sentiment.

My pair of 705's don't look like that. I'd say that shade of brown with some dark maroon mixed in. More of a wine color.

Granted Mine aren't in an area with direct bright light.

I've tried both. initially ordered cherry, thinking I wanted something nice and warm looking, but they really just looked bright orange to me. as noted above, not like the cherry you see in the RTiA series speakers. cherry would prob go nice in a room with other darker earthy stuff. I saw one photo of them in a listening room that was dimly lit with small spots highlighting the equipment up front, and they looked awesome. that's not my room, unfortunately, so they looked nothing like that when I got them hooked up :)

ended up swapping the cherry for midnight mahogany, and I like them a lot better.
agreed with what's been said above - they're kind of purpley when you look at them closely under brighter light, but from a distance in a moderately lit space, they look dark and almost black.
    I disabled signatures.

I think I'd go with the Cherry with the lighter sound!

This is a funny group of people we got here... cherry is light sounding and mahogany is woody and dark sounding.

Cool thanks Jesse, that's what I was worried about that the pic was non representative. I must admit, the brown looks good though if it truly were more of that brownish hue.

I prefer the midnight mahogany but with either finish is very nice and hard to beat at F&F pricing. if your decor is light wood then perhaps the cherry is your preference... if you have darker furnishings then the midnight is maybe better for you...there is no better choice... just your choice

The color tone will depend on the lighting. For example, fluorescent light kills red tones, which would also affect purple.

If you don't have bright lights or daylight shining on the Midnight Mahogany speakers they basically look black and would be a better match with the darker tones in your house.

    Joey,

Here is a pic of the midnight mahogany with natural light hitting it. No, I do not leave my speakers in direct sunlight. Haha. The pic was taken shortly before I sold it.

You're welcome to stop by and check out my 703's if interested. It obviously won't help with the cherry, but you'll know what the mahogany looks like.

As a bonus you'll be able to hear the darker sound of the mahogany :D

Wait. Did I miss something? Perhaps my judgement was short sighted and intuition did not dictate that cherry was not "darker" sounding. What a revelation. Haha

Now that I have my cherry 703's and 706 I've noticed they sound better then my RtiA7's and CSiA6 which were a darker cherry. :p

What is the difference in color between the Kersenhout (703 speakers listed on amazon) and the Mount Vernon Cherry?
  • F1nut
    F1nut Posts: 50,647
There is no difference. Kersenhout is Dutch for cherry wood.
