Just saying hola

Picked up some Monitor 10s and SDA 2s so I have been surfing the forums. I plan to upgrade both, starting with the crossover on the 10s. Something I have never done before, so I look forward to learning how to do that. Both sound great in their current state though. They were really taken care of and it shows. I am glad I was able to snag them.

Currently running an Onkyo 876 which is no slouch and seems to handle the SDAs just fine. I would like to get separate stereo equipment for them at some point though.

I believe those are not SDA-2 But rather 2A or 2B. Great speaker!

If it's the 2As, I'll be upgrading mine this weekend. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about parts. I have links to everything I've purchased and will post it on the forum when the project is completed.

Welcome to Club Polk, ScubaSteve! Looks like you snagged some great speakers there in very nice condition. The Monitor 10s and SDA-2Bs are some of my personal favorites of the entire Polk line. It looks like you have the Monitor 10As and SDA-2B Studios.

You've definitely come to the right place - LOTS of experts here! - for advice and opinions on navigating your way through the upgrade process, if that's your desire. However, when you are ready and are looking for that kind of discussion, you'll get many, many more views of your thread and responses to your questions/concerns when you give it a title that reflects that. Use something like, "Upgrades and Mods of Monitor 10As" or something similar rather than simply "Just saying hola".

Again, welcome to CP, and enjoy those great speakers! B)

Welcome to Polk SSteve. Beautiful speakers. Nice find. Did you get the IC cord with the SDA's ? Placement with them will make a big difference. Lots of info here & great people to help out. Welcome again

  • Thanks. I do have the cable that goes between the speakers as well. I thought the speakers were the 2As. I guess I need to get on figuring that out. I have a lot of reading ahead of me on the forums.

Not necessarily. Very early 2B's had blade/blade. Pull the midwoofers and get the model number off of them, it's on a sticker on the back of the driver. You could also go by the crossover, which @westmassguy (among others) should be able to help you out with, or you could check out the schematics for yourself that are posted in the vintage forum.

Edit: There's still a possibility that the midwoofer were replaced with incorrect ones, so really you can't go off that for certain either.

Work has been keeping me busy. I pulled off all of the midwoofers.
The two outside drivers (SDA driver right) are 6511s and the two inside are 6503s.
Going off the SDA model identification, and if the early 2Bs did have a blade/blade, It appears I have a 2B studio and not a 2A. Still need to verify the crossover though.
