Yesterday afternoon, the state college in my hometown won the NCAA Div. III National Championship in basketball. Then, in the evening the high school won the Div. I State High School Championship, over an undefeated three time champ. Pretty frickin' impressive day! And the college hockey team is in the frozen four. Could be a cheese trifecta!

Awesome. Pretty impressive day for sure! I just went to the Texas High School state championships last weekend. No dog in the fight, just love watching good high school ball.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

I couldn't attend the high school championship game but I was in Madison and able to attend the semi-finals. So good to see such enthusiasm among not only the players but the fans. High school and college sports seem more real.

I love watching the small schools play. Basically the entire town shows up to support the team. One school with an enrollment of 48 students (not a misprint) traveled 620 miles to the state championship venue. They must have had 1000 fans make the trip. And they won state in convincing fashion. That's pretty awesome. High school (and to a large extent college) is a much more pure form of the game.Post edited by PSOVLSK onThings work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Thanks for the feedback. My only clue to location was "Cheese Trifecta,", which I suppose should get me to the correct state at least.Jay

Yes, Whitewater has ruled Div. III football. Between Whitewater and Stevens Point, there's some pretty good sports going on over the years (Stevens Point won back-to-back national titles in basketeball just a few years ago). I had a prior GF that got her MBA at Whitewater (known for its business school) so I spent a lot of time there for a couple years. Turns out the coach at the high school in Stevens Point was a player on UWSP's team a few years ago (and also an assistant coach I think), and his kid is the stud point guard on the high school team, (along with two other stud kids who are the athletic director's kids, one of whom is a freshman; the others are juniors.) So, anyway, the high school coach's mentor and the high school coach both won their respective titles on the same day, which was phenominal for a small town. I know teachers in the high school and they say the kids were raised right and are respectful and humble, and their Dad the coach is one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet.
