FS: Parasound HCA-1500A amp, Adcom GFP-565 preamp (local pickup, Philadelphia area)

edited March 2015 in For Sale (FS) Classifieds
I've got a couple of pieces of equipment that I'm selling, and I'm really tired of packing things up and taking them to the local shipping site. Especially really heavy things. So I'd like to give folks on this forum, who are also in the Philadelphia area, an opportunity to get some equipment at what I hope is a pretty good price, if they can come and pick it up. Pics follow descriptions.

I've got a:

Parasound HCA-1500A high current amplifier...if you're reading this, you probably know what this is. It won't win any beauty contests ("some cosmetic wear and tear"), but it does what it's supposed to do. I love it and I'll miss it, but I gotta let it go. Comes with manual.

Price: $275

...and a:

Adcom GFP-565 Preamplifier...again, y'all probably have some idea...great "entry-level" preamp, phono inputs, and a pretty well-regarded phono stage. A little wear - some of the lettering on the front panel has faded (see pics), but it does what it was built to do. I haven't noticed any effects of age. Comes with original box.

Price: $225

They're both up on the local Craigslist, for a little bit more. If I can't get someone to make a local pickup, I'll put them up here (if that's ok) and elsewhere for shipping, for a little bit more - an "I am so sick and tired of boxing things up and carrying them to the shipping place" penalty (I take packing very seriously). If I end up putting them up here for shipping, there'll still be a forum discount. I would just really like to move these on without having to double-box them (that's right) and etc. And folks here have been very helpful to me, even when I've been a bit tetchy.

So. If you, or a friend, have a vehicle, I invite you to come and get these, either one or both, at what I hope is a pretty good price.

Cash preferred, PayPal if you gotta.

The Parasound HCA 1500A is an amazing amp (I have one powering my SDA 2BTLs) and a steal at that price. If I were near Philadelphia (I am in upstate NY) I'd pick it up myself just to get another one. Someone near Philly better run (not walk) and get this at that price!

Posted 8 minutes ago and that Parasound is still here? Something is amiss.

Its quite simple, he doesn't wanna ship. Which is his prerogative, but it will meant that the sale will take longer. I mean is Tony really gonna drive 1000 miles to Philly to get this amp???

Thanks for ups, guys. My first post is a bit tl;dr, so I can understand if folks don't get through it.

Also, I'm gonna ship if I don't get any takers for pickup; I just want to see if I can avoid that before I buy boxes and bubble wrap and etc. I've been mailing a bunch of stuff lately, and I'm a bit worn out from it. I'll give this a week or so, then I'll bite the bullet and pull out the packing tape.

I'd like to raise the prices if/when I post for ship; does anyone think that would be an issue?

Even if the OP just dropped it off at a FedEx or UPS store, they'd pack and ship and for what....an extra 50 ? Still represents a heck of a price for a nice amp your not going to find cheaper....anywhere.

I can't imagine still being here in 3 or 4 days with the amount of CP members we have within an hour or two of Philly. At that price, the Parasound should be gone,GLWTS!

Put me in line for the Parasound.

EDIT: Just re-read the post. You'll have to ship to me but I'd still like to be put in line for that.

Yeah, while totally possible, if it was me as a seller, I'd rather not trust them to package it right......

Wouldn't want shipping damage on an item of that value/worth.

I had someone ship me an amp they left off at UPS and the thing came to me shipped in one box (wth?) with a little bubble wrap basically wrapped loosely around in the box that was halfway flat from the amp being loose, and Styrofoam peanuts that shifted around in transit. Needless to say ,one of the rack ears had punched it's way a little through the box , bending it some. Fortunately the amp sounded fine when plugged in and has been a real workhorse for the past 4 years. Yea, I wouldn't trust Fed Ex or UPS to do the packing.

Man, that sucks about your amp. that's the kind of bad experience I see/hear from person to person sales in Ebay deals, where the guy tells you "oh yeah, I pack real good! not to worry!" and then it shows up wrapped in single layers of baby bubble wrap in a half opened fruit box with chicken feathers all over it. but it's marked FRAGILE all over, so it's "obviously the carrier's fault", from the dirtbag seller's perspective. ask me how I know.

I've gotten all my good amps shipped. I simply wouldn't have access to any good stuff if people wouldn't ship to me. One done by a UPS Store, and another from FedEx Office/Kinkos. yeah, I paid extra for this, but it was worth it to me. If you call and talk to them about the packing process first you might not have any problems. Polkie - was that UPS itself, or a UPS Store? The two times I've done this so far, I've been fortunate enough to have some zealous types working with the equipment, and when arrived, it was actually a chore getting it all unwrapped.

last time I did this, it was with a receiver weighing around 40 or 50 lbs, and the FedEx Office charged $30 for the packing and materials. Worth it to me for the ease of completing the transaction, as the seller originally didn't want to ship. who would, when you have to chase down a box, packing materials, and then worry about safe transport. side note - this is one of the reasons I always save and try to shop for equip with the OE boxes + packing materials; a piece is more valuable to me if it has this stuff.

Guys, you don't just drop it off and say see ya later. You have to give them instructions on how you want it packed and not leave it to their guess.....and you make them let you visually see it before sealing the box. C'mon man, this can't be your first rodeo at shipping gear.

Sorry for going off track to the OP. Now someone grab this sucker before I see a thread on " Can't find a decent amp" and go ballistic.

Interest in both pieces is very much appreciated! I think I've contacted everyone who's contacted me so far. I'll update folks if either piece is still available. Thanks again to all folks who've contacted me, and to everyone who kept this thread alive.

Update: Parasound is spoken for. (I'd put that in OP but I can't seem to edit it...I used to know how to do that...). I'd love to get the Adcom to a Polkie. It's a great little "starter" preamp that throws quite a soundstage.
