New dac

Soekris ApS dam1021-02
This dac is only about $300 plus case. I think it's deadly accurate. Lazers and spotlights accurate. Sounds great on all music and beats. The pace of the music never sounded better. Good source = good sound. Miles Davis-Sketches of Spain is a new experience .

It's worth the trouble, believe me. Easiest build possible.

Rich, you need to hear this!

Pic of POC. Easy, right? These is I2S and bnc input only. Soon to have 2 I2S inputs and the bnc. I2S sounds best!!!!! It does have it's querks but it sounds great.

Kewl, nice project! I read HiFiDuino's blog and saw this last month. So I read in another forum (Stereonet) that you can get it with an ES9018 or TDA1541 DAC chip?

I like the programmable filter approach.

"I’m not a believer in no filters (non oversampling), but also don’t like the sharp “brick-wall” filter types with the pre-ringing. The goal is to work towards filter types that remove just enough to not cause problems with aliasing. It’s pretty easy with higher sampling rates, but is long and hard work and listening tests with 44.1 KHz, which still are the sample rate mostly used…."

Sounds like a wait for some of the features. Hopefully they won't be like Twisted Pear where we talk about things that don't get released. Ha!

Interested to know if there is any DC offset in the balanced out. I'm still very happy with my dual mono BIII and currently have no interest in anything digital. Not entirely true, I do have this Sonore USB to I2S board to try.

I'm building a diy speed control for my turntable (33, 45 and 78) and have plans to finally build my stainless top plate PTP5 Lenco turntable. The PTP5 is a minimal top plate and mechanical speed control isn't as easy to implement as the PTP4 full size top plate. The Lenco motor pulls 15 to 19 watts so most controllers out there would go up in smoke if used.

My Krell KRC-HR pre amp has R2R resistor ladder volume control, and I'm thinking I won't own a pre amp with a volume pot ever again.

Have fun, keep us updated on your new DAC.

I need a sonore usb or other good usb to i2s converter to build this one. Don't want to rob the buffalo to build this up. It sounds fantastic after many hours of burnin. Teleporters used for now.

A sonara or Amanero and I'm set. Burl face and dual i2s inputs. Later maybe a dual mono if they have firmware for it. The Roots-Rising Down if you want bass.
