17 inches O Ice and it's March

The Grandson wanted to go Ice fishing today I said ok as long as you man the ice auger and do 3 holes. Glad he did all the work the ice was still as thick as the flutes on the auger here it is March 7th and the Ice is still that thick good thing the season is almost over or else I would have to invest in a power auger, at least the holes are ready for tomorrow. 50s next week bout time it's all going to melt.

    Haven't gone out once this winter. By the time we had ice, 9 feet of snow fell and made ice fishing seem like more of a hassle than leisure.

    Jigging is just too much work. Set it and forget for tilts. FLAG!
    Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!

    Yep that much snow would make me not go out in it, hope your snow don't melt all at once. The third hole is for a tip up for northern would of set up a second tip up but don't think the little guy could of done fourth hole he was pretty tuckered out. I guess I don't need a power auger when he is with and we don't need more than 3 holes :)

    I did the chisel when I was a kid. Then my father finally made the jump to an 8" power auger and we never looked back.

    There is nothing more manly than hand chiselling 15-20 holes. Your grandsons forearms will thank you for it later. ;)

    Looks like he had a blast. Gotta love yelling flag & haul a$$ to find out its a wind flag :smile: the fun of ice fishing. We go up to Moosehead Lake in Greenville & last month i had to use a extension on the Jiffy. But around here i just use the auger without it. We use to have car races on ice on New Meadows in West Bath, Me. I miss them. Not sure why but i havent seen them out there in the last few years. Use to take the daughter over & drive on ice & watch them having a blast. Outside winter sports are fun with the family

    I used to ice fish on Oneida lake in NY State....many years 30+ inches of ice..Great times... Great fishing... Lotsa perch and a few walleyes... Had to but the beer in the shanty to keep it from freezing.
