Blumenstein Orcas?
After working with my coworker for 6 months he finally shares with me that he's building a tube amp to go with his Blumenstein Orcas. I read up a little on them and to those who don't know they're a single driver speaker, boasting one 3" full range driver. Has anyone ever gotten ears on these?

It's all a matter of taste. The single full range driver sound is not for everyone. And as you note, small SFRDs don't do much in the lower octaves. Larger SFRDs can make respectable bass, but will never be able to hit as deep or play as loud as a good multi-way.
Clark B. seems like a nice guy and makes a decent product. He has a preference for the Fostex FE83En 3.5" driver. Personally, I prefer the Fostex FF85wk. I have a pair of older FF85k in micro-Fonken enclosures (which I built) in daily use in our kitchen/dinning area. They sound quite nice, although f3 is about 100 Hz. (Note that this results in a freedom from chestyness often heard on FM radio.) In another room, I would definitely add a sub. And you might be surprised at how good they can sound!
That said, it's a matter of horses for courses. We all have our preferences. No need to rain on someone else's parade.
Cheers, Jim
