Electrical Wiring Q

Nearing completion of my basement, and it's time to run lights and switches, so here's my question: I am running 12/2 from the service panel to a first switch which will control lights in Room A. Then power has to be run from the Room A box to Room B, which will go to a different switch box w 2 switches for separate lights in Room B.
Here's my question - do ALL white neutral wires in boxes for rooms A and B get tied together with a wire nut, or do the whites going from the box to the actual lights get attached to each switch?

If all you are using are 120v SPST switches, then all the whites in the box should be twisted together and secured with a wirenut. If I read you right, you should have a 12/2 feeder coming into the switch box, and a 12/2 switch leg to the first light fixture; you can daisy-chain the light fixtures together, you don't have to run separate switch legs to each light unless you want to, but that switch box will get crowded in a hurry!
I think that's what you mean? So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I think so....so do the white wire 'leaving' the box going to the actual light fixture will be connected to white coming in from the service....with a wire nut of course.....

Yes.
The 12/2 from the panel (connected to 15 amp breaker?) goes into the switch box. From the switch box you run two more 12/2 wires, one goes to a fixture in Room A, the other will end up feeding the switch box in Room B.
So you now have three 12/2 wires in the switch box in Room A. Tie all three whites together and wire nut them.
If you want more info on this maybe PM or email me?So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I think I got it.....I wore the electrical guy out at HD yesterday with questions, but he was great. The part about three 12 2 wires in the box with all 3 whites tied together really clarified things....thanks a ton!!!

PMs are nearly free, emails cost a bit more, and you don't want to think about telephone consultations...
j/k, good luck with your project. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Curious....why run 12/2 on a 15 amp circuit?Modwright SWL 9.0 SE (6Sons Audio Thunderbird PC with Oyaide 004 terminations)

Couple of reasons. Decreased voltage drop if it's a long distance from the panel, ability to switch to a 20amp breaker down the road if you find you need it, headroom for the large current inrush of hi-draw stuff. Personally, I don't use 14awg for anything other than tying into existing 15A circuits that are already wired with 14awg. 12awg is not much more expensive nor is it significantly harder to work with.
