Try getting that show past the sensors today. I just saw a repeat of the first season of SNL's "word association" skit with Chevy Chase and Richard Prior. At the time I was marveling at how far we have come, being able to use humor to open a dialog.

The PC police have squashed that like a bug... can't even say crap (C R A P) here any more. How sad...

Isn't it kinda ironic though, that speech is regulated to a 1950's terminology in most media, but visually....all bets are off.

Lets take Archie Bunker as an example. Like John said, you couldn't do that show today....language wise anyway. Visually though it represented the times. Today, you can show half naked people, even tweet out fully naked pics, put up shows where people have sex in a box, Victoria Secret models on the runway, but you can't use the same language from 50 years ago. Interesting how things have flipped. No sexual things visually but gruff language was ok back then. Now, no gruff language but sexual things are just fine visually.

Funny how we've moved from Rob and Laura Petry in 2 single beds to 50 shades of grey.

The issue goes up to the SC because boneheads don't want to use common sense....and since we don't have draft cards anymore, that issue is mute.

OK...skimmed over Cohen vs California and have to say....common sense. The dude wore a jacket that said " F***k the draft".....in a public place and with children present. Foul language is of course restricted in certain areas or circumstances. The same way a simple word like "Fire" can't be used to incite people in a crowded theatre. Government has the right, and should have, to be able to restrict certain language or the way it's used when it goes against the general well being of the public. You have a problem with that ?

Again, behavior has a lot to do with common sense and it's not a stretch as seen in todays circumstances to believe that the SC doesn't always get it right.

I kinda get tired about everyone screaming about "their rights". Seems like everyone has a different idea of what they are or what they are "entitled" to. Bigger question is, are these rights God given as some seem to think ? Or man given ? If given by man, then they are privileges, not rights, and can be given and more importantly, taken away by other men. Wouldn't you agree ?

There is no intent to create any animosity on my part, although others often go out of their way to exaggerate a response because I disagreed with them on the subjects of cables and amplifiers some 3 years ago.

From my perspective, the issue here is that while Polk has the right to regulate what they want on a private forum, it is the complete and utter childlessness of their censorship that is the source of friction. When you start censoring common words used on TV, and in the daily paper, then you have crossed the line.
