why would I want SDA crs speakers w/ my 2Bs

I might have a line on some of the double tweeter CRS model . Now I have 2Bs which are fully modded. how much different are the smaller models. Is the analogy of lets say muscle cars where you could have a Ford GT350 fast back and also have a Gt 500 at the same time. About the double tweeters I've heard Dave say just remove the dimensional tweeter and you'll be set. What's the problem of the double tweeter design specifically ??

  • So Randy I gather by your sig that you can have as many SDAs as 1 could posess. Are yours in the same room ? Also cable is included but I think stands don't exist. Again are the double tweeter model worth it if cheap enough on price??... lew

No. 1c's in living room & CRS+ in bedroom. 2b's in coffins. I deleted my responses above because it really didnt answer your question & my info you already know. I apologize. I have not heard the 2 tweet CRS's. So i cant comment.... I can say with my experience with CRS+'s they can be driving easier than the bigger SDA's. I toy'd around with a few receivers & my modest 52wpc Marantz pushed them fine. Even at high/reasonable volumes. Where the 52wpc couldnt drive the 2b's past 10:30 on dial before failing. Back to the CRS's. I soon after hooked them up to the Yamaha CR2040 & they have been there since. I never tried the Adcom 555 but i gotta feeling it would be a perfect match up (555 did very well with 2b's). I would like to get my ears on the CRS 2 tweet speaker & hear what all the TALK is about. Just like the 2a's. I enjoy hooking/unhooking speakers/amps/preamps in this hobby to hear different things they do

You won't get anything from original CRS that you're not getting better with modded 2B's. Best case scenario the CRS+ when 4.1 TL'd will be almost as good as a 2B in a smaller package. But that's final generation. 2-tweeter CRS is first version, I don't think you get yourself anywhere by getting those. Spend your money elsewhere.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I agree with nspindel. Again, unless you have room for them and can acquire them at a very low price, go ahead. If not, then wait for a CRS+ version with one tweeter, preferably the fourth iteration, the ones with pin/blade that can be TL'd. I bought my CRS+, third iteration with the original Polk stands, locally for a real low price. I know these do show up but it really depends on your location. Here in the Great Plains (I used Midwest once and a couple of forum members back east [Indiana] thought I was near them), the CRS's are fairly rare here. I have learned a lot reading this forum over the years and I have many speakers to show for it. But that's how I've learned the differences in sound between the various models and what room sizes to put them in (still working on the room size/placement part). Good luck.

I bought a pair of 2-tweet CRS, even though I have a full-bore set of 2BTL's. They were 5 minutes from my work, they were in flawless shape, and they were a hundred bucks.

Do they compete with my 2Bs? Well, they're certainly not as good, but they're still a nice speaker. When I've been operating on the 2Bs (adding neutrik for dreadnaught, installing Larry's rings), I've been able to rotate the CRS in so I can keep the tunes rolling without having to rush my patients through surgery. And at some point, they'll perhaps end up at my brother's house, or they'll go off to college with one of my sons.

So if a pair pops up that has a great condition-to-price-to-driving-distance ratio, I'd say pick 'em up if you've got the scratch, the urge, and enough room to keep them.

  • Thanks guys , that's great I'm passing. Room is the biggest issue and if the same straight line rules apply then it certainly be out of the question. If they were tossed to the curb I would take them but I have 6 sets already and this guy who was trying to unload his 2bs for like 6/7 months I had a minor rapor w/ him and he said he multiple sets of the CRS but never really gave a reasonable price so it's a no.
