    Looking great!

I hope you didn't make your daughter clean that up by herself? I'd would have had my wife help her.

Yeah it really does sound good. I have been playing flac all morning and afternoon it is very warm and pleasing...no fatigue at all, considering how long it's been playing I am still enjoying it. It seems to be very rich without being bright, of course lacking a bit in the low bass. I have read reviews on the onk describing it as bright, but perhaps the bookies are offsetting that, because it's providing exactly what I wanted. Pretty, discrete, and beautiful laid back music. $180 for the bookies and $330 for the onkyo fit the bill, I am 100% satisfied, given its purpose.

Turns out the bass was lacking because I had a channel out of phase. This system is only doing background duty, so it took me about four days before I realized the speakers were a bit directional, all better now. The bass is actually quite good for small bookies.

Finally got around to finishing the hand rail. Now I am going to start building some speaker stands out of the old oak stair treads :#

That looks really good Jeremy. Bet you're happy with it. It opened up the entry into that far room with the tile floor very nice. I can't tell what the room is used for but I see part of a brick fireplace so I'll guess it's a main floor family room and you have the small 2-channel set up in the living room. Enjoy it, you did good.

Yeah we like it. The room isnt good for much because it is very narrow 11x24. The other end opens to our narrow 12 x24 patio room. The small two channel is currently in the living room, now on the tv stand, since the wife wanted her sofa table back. It will be in the narrow family room with the fireplace once I get the stands built. The only furniture in there at this point is two red chairs, so the room is very lively and not really suitable for audio. I/wife is planning to put a pub height bistro and a wine table in there, so maybe that'll help. I put the tile down last spring and the wife doesn't want to cover it with a rug. Oh well can't have it all my way...I guess.

I got one of stands finished, glue is still drying on the other. I think they turned out okay, considering the use of repurposed 40yo stairs treads...still waiting on the spikes to arrive.

I'd have to say you knocked it out of the park. Those things look REALLY GOOD!

Thanks guys, I'm happy with them. They are a bit of on overkill for my 12lb. bookies but I think the kids would have a hard time knocking them over by accident. I used four treads and some left over mdf casing. I had the paint, stain and poly already so $25 dollars for the spikes is all they cost me.

No clue how this one sounds, but cnh (where the hell has he been?) likes the older HK sound:

You could snag one of these and find a preamp:

Nakamichi - again no experience, but worth mentioning:

This is also local, but its a new one for me:

A little late to the party. Those old Realistics are similar to older Pioneer units in sound. Probably OK. I have a Yamaha in the fold as well, clean, neutral, more detail than a lot of vintage receivers, but NOT that warm.

Warmth and musicality go to my HK 430 and 730 TWIN power (25 and 40 watts x 2 respectively). Also have a decent phono stage for you vinyl boys and girls!

Of the Fluance bookies I would have suggested the SX-6s-the SX towers are nothing special. Skip is right! These are crossed over at a more reasonable 3.5 Khz and are a decent 5"" two way soft dome that is pretty cheap. They are, however, a little hotter, brighter up top than the A Jones bookies, but have decent low end. In fact their low end is not that far from your higher level towers?

ADS speakers and Yamahas are a nice match, but I'd prefer a "warmer" receiver on my ADS L520s. Too neutral does not do it for me.

On the other hand. EPI and any old Realistic (Foster/Fostex) receiver of decent power should sound pretty good indeed. I used to run some EPI 100s and a Pioneer SX-838 (similar to some 50 watt x 2 Realistic vintage pieces). A wonderful combo!

However, it does look like things worked out for you.

As for me, I REALLY needed a break from EVERYTHING for a while. Now that the sun and temps around 40 or more are back, so am I! lol

Enjoy! Nice work! That ONKYO looks like a nice piece, I wonder if it sounds as GOOD as the A-9555 (no longer in production)?

    Disregard my babbling above.

You went with the Onkyo and the higher level Fluance bookies. Great stands.

The SX-6s do have MORE bass than the series you chose even though they are cheaper, they are a heavier speaker, more solid build as well. Yours look "better" aesthetically!

Yeah I really considered the sx6 as I read great reviews, but I needed them to match the decor and the the ones I purchased do that better. I'm really happy with the setup...unlike my other system that sounds better, but is very picky about...well everything...the fluance bookies and Onkyo sound really good together no matter the source or placement etc. It isn't the most accurate, detailed, or dynamic sound, but the overall tone is just buttery smooth and a pleasure to listen too.

A lot easier to make crown moulding cuts without the pain in the azz guard on your miter saw, isn't it ? Nice work ! ;)

Ha, yeah it is...but that pain in the azz guard actually goes on the table saw, not my miter...but in either case, your right.

You should get an area rug to throw down on that tile maybe?

Looks like a cozy little nook, fireplace and everything. B)
