Mcintosh 1.2kw - thoughts?

Welp... One your polkie members here pointed me to a listing where a guy is selling his 800 diamonds. But the catch is that he'd like to see the diamonds with a pair of these Mcintosh behemoths. These are the Mac 1201. 1.2kw per channel monoblock.

I have heard of them and lusted over the coolness that they look... But never thought I'd be buying a pair.

Now, I may have use for it. 1 it might be a nice secondary amp in the main room. 2 it might serve well in the other rooms and should keep up with whatever speaker I choose. Even a pair of low sensitivity magico mini 2 would sing.

Thoughts? I'm trying to get best price possible and if I don't like it i post it on audiogon.

    Just learned that there's a difference between the 1201 and the 1.2KW. The 1.2KW model is newer. The audiogon listing is for the 1201 and that's at 11.9$. This means that the 1.2KW has got to be more. If I can get this deal from this guy, it's a steal.

    Guy's selling the 1.2KW NOT the 1201 (which is older). I don't have audiogon bluebook so I don't know what the 1.2KW are generally selling for. Anyone here has the 'gon bluebook?

    Ha.. my mistake I'm an idiot. Guy is selling 1201 NOT 1.2KW. Dang it. *sigh*...

    Guess I have my answer, 11,900 is market value.

    Also interesting is that I just found through my searches that a fellow polkie almost landed the 1201 mono blocks... I think it was PFB (polkfarmboy) and something happened and he got scammed. I dunno, I thought that was kinda weird.

    PFB experiences should only be used as a worst case scenario example.

    But yeah, as I said in my other post, unless he bought them as new/old stock, its sort of fishy.

    Maybe see if one of the Houston area Polkies can make a scouting trip for you? Should be a pretty surefire way of making certain before you make the trip.

    Yes JV I got scammed and I am virtually scam proof, some folks round town call me scamproofboy. I would never buy a pair of MC's again as it just takes one guy to slam them and its game over. I cant ever sell my MC 501's for that reason either. With that said they are great amps for some speakers that need the tweeters and highs harnessed

    Yeah, the guy looks to unload the 800 diamonds AND a pair of 1201 for $22K. I was aiming for 20. If he takes at say 21K, then basically market value for 800 Diamonds is about 15K, that means 6K for the 1201 mono.

    Never saw it below 10500 for a pair of 1201 on gon'. That's a smoking deal.

    I thought he was selling 1.2KW.... that goes for 15+K on 'gon.. that was my once in a lifetime deal and I don't think I could get rid of 'em then... I'd just be smiling and listening.
