I hear a random ticking noise from all of the speakers when I uses any built in music source including a server and thumb drive. I dont hear it at all if I use any of the attached devices (smart TV BD's etc.) as the music source. Yamaha support says I need to take it in for service but before I do that does anyone have any ideas of what I can do?
Thanks
Bruce

If you haven't already I would try asking your question on the AVS Forum. Here's the Official thread for your AVR.

What you can do ? Stop using it as a server. Most receivers suck at it anyway, but it sells products.HT SYSTEM-

My rx1010 does fantastic as a server. The sound quality is slightly better using the fire tv, but functionally it is great. No lag, no dropouts, gapless playback, very responsive UI. I don't know about most, but the net functions on my previous Onkyo txnr717 were a bit laggy in comparison, but sounded great. I would have occasional dropouts on it and the on screen menu would be delayed a second or so from the panel menu. In my experience with Aventage Yamaha's the net/PC functions are very good. My model has functioned flawlessly, so far, over LAN and from USB. I would imagine that the rxa1040 should too. Sounds like yours needs to go in to the shop to see whats up.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

Tony of course I dont use it but it's supposed to work its only a couple of months old. Outside of the ticking it does play a little cleaner than the connected sources.

I know this is an old thread but I have been using the PS3 media server and my 1010 plays stuff flawlessly

The tick issues was resolved. I gave my ps3 to my daughter but I think that I want another one. The ps3 media server is less clunky than on the oppo

No, what will to do for me?

My 1010 found my PC using the PS3 media server with no issue. I also forgot to mention that I don't even have a PS3 anymore.
