mixing rear surrounds

I know already it's not cool to mix the the fronts for timbre matching . But little is said about mixing rear speakers. Right now I have a Yamaha RX-V665 w/ only utilizing 5.1 out of the 7.1 it provides for. I'm looking at some AR 215PS W/ stands that just might work and if not I still have 1 slot on my speaker selector. I read reviews on them and they were all positive for both surrounds and stand alone bookies. So can you mix and match rears or not advised at all ??

    They say the front stage should be, as your aware for 5.1,but if your going for 7.1 I would make sure the rears and sides match. I just went all Polks in my 7.2 so I didn't have any timbre matching issue. I think it also looks better having all the same model line and brand for that seem less soundstage. Try it out and see what you think.

    I'm running 5.1, and using small energy speakers for the rear surrounds, modded CRS+ and LSiM 704 for the fronts and center. Timbre matching is not a problem. The surrounds carry very little main information.

    However, I also am using the AVR to power only the center channel and surrounds, so it's not stressed. Have a separate PA for the front L-R mains.

    I'm using Klipsch #500h/d smalls and to say these ARs if I get them don't match in size and shape would the under statement of the Century. The 3 foots stands which I could use and like I said I could just h/u them to my big system depending on how they look and sound.
