Oppo bdp 93 as a pre?

Ok, I'm in trouble. I have an opportunity to buy some b&k reference 200.1 s2 mono blocks. But will leave me a little tapped out. Is it possible to use my bdp 93 as a pre? I see it has 7.1 pre-outs and its own volume. The back of the b&k also has a gain knob if I'm not mistaken. And could someone tell me what the going rate for these amps would be? I feel the price is a little on the high side. Seriously people I almost lost sleep over this last night. Maybe I should forget about it! The rabbit hole has a good grip on me with this one. Lol

    Hello,

    Are you going after the pair on Canuck audio mart in Calgary.If so I think it's a good price as your local to Calgary as well I think, as you don't have to pay for shipping.
    I was looking at those myself but decided against it.

    As for the Oppo I would think you can based on the info you provided.

    Yes they are on canuck audio mart. We are currently working a deal. I would use this as a 2 channel system only. I do live in Calgary so I can demo them and pick them up in person. Both feet are in the rabbit hole now!

    Well good luck and let us know how you like them if you decide to buy.

    I like the BK Amps. I have the B&K AV5000 series II and really like the sound with polk speakers. I also have a Parasound 1500a for two channel and that's why I decided not to go after the mono blocks, as the parasound is a pretty sweet amp.

    You have the LISM series correct, I think you're going to be a happy man if you get the Mono Block amps. As you can't have too much power!!!

    I know the Oppo 105 can be used as a pre, but didn't think the rest of them could.

    Waiting for a response from the seller right now. I will be using them with lsi15's that have the db woofer and vr3 fortress crossover. I've ordered lsim705's through a local dealer, should be here in a few weeks! My plan was to use them for home theater as I have the 706 already. I'm getting a little too spendy!

    Alright, picked up the b&k amps tonight. Super nice guy, we drank a few beers and listened to music for a few hours. The amps are absolutely mint. They look brand new. Doesn't even look like there is dust in them. I didn't have time to hook them up tonight. I'm saving that for Friday night. They also came with heavy duty custom power cords, they look a lot like signal cable magic cables with furutech connectors. I will post some pics once set up. I now need help picking a pre amp. Budget is around 1000$ probably in the next week or so.

    I would look for something that is neutral or revealing for a pre. The B&K will be slightly laid back and the LSIM will also.

    Getting a laid back or tubey preamp may end up in too soft a sound.

    A grand is a good budget and you'll have to do some homework.

    IIRC... I think it's the Adcom GFP 750 that is highly thought of and a member here loved it with his B&K Reference. Make sure to get a unit with blue boards.

    Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I have looked everywhere and there isn't any of the gfp750 for sale. I will do some more homework. There is SO much out there, it's become a little over whelming.

    Azur 840e Preamp a stunning piece off audio equipment and sounds very nice.

    Thanks roger, I was actually checking out their azur preamps. There is a dealer in town that has Cambridge audio, linn, and arcam. I'm heading there tomorrow to check things out. I have everything set up directly to my oppo bdp 93.... It works... But it sounds mehhh... Playing dark side of the moon on sacd, it's underwhelming. Maybe I need more beers :wink:

    Not bad depending on who went over it and what they did. I'd look into that.. Not sure how hard a remote is to find, or if a Universal works with this....

    I'd almost start a thread here about that as there are a BUNCH of Sunfire Junkies here.. @nooshinjohn, @Cfrizz, @F1nut to mention a few....

    Talked to the seller today and it is sold! I also have a sunfire amp in my theater. Love it! But not familiar with their pre amps. Kind of disappointed, a ton of great reviews on it. I was ready to pull the trigger. Oh well.. Will keep looking. Thank you everyone for the feedback. Love this forum :blush:

    That is exactly what I need, I like that it is small. I am trying to keep everything very minimal.

    I'll recommend a VTL 2.5 or maybe a Joule LA-100MkII. Either would be a nice step up from what you are considering so far.

    Oppo as a pre? Hmmmmmmmm, no.

    That said, if the BAT VK-30 that PFB has for sale is still available (just make sure he packs it well and insures it for the FULL amount) ;) , you'll be happy. Also, the VTL 2.5 is good. I haven't heard the Joule LA-100MkII, but if Jesse says it's good I would trust him.

    The Joule LA-100mkII is friggen gorgeous... and looks like one of my french cousins up here has a VTL 2.5. So many choices.

    I'll say....I've heard Cary's lower line pre's I thought were better. Second any Bat suggestions, Rogue-VTL-Joule- even Cayin. Lets not forget Musical fidelity to throw in there either.
