This 2-CD compilation of opera favorites arrived last week and I'm really loving it. The album is called "The #1 Opera Album". www.cdnow.com is selling them. I have several compilations but this one is super cool. The recording sounds great. Very different than the ones I'm used to. You can really hear the acoustics of the room and it has that 'atmosphere'. Also, the performances are more agressive than my other ones and I love it.

'Habanera' from Carmen was performed by Tatiana Troyanos. Never heard her before getting this CD but I gotta tell you. She has the MOST creamy voice I've heard. My previous favorite for Hanabera was Victoria de los Angeles but Tatiana sounds much better. Less suduction is portrayed than Victoria but oooooh, that voice makes me drool:). I also have Carmen performed by Maria Callas but IMO she's not the perfect Carmen. You get her signature nasally, beautiful vocal style but there are better for Carmen. But nobody can beat Maria in Madama Butterfly.

All the famous songs are here. If you've never head opera before, I'm sure you've heard many of the songs already in movies, TV shows, or 'remixed' for today's 'modern' music.

If you're looking to get into opera, this is a great album for your introduction. If you're already into opera, you'll still enjoy it.
