Economy Flexy Rack Build

Yet another Flexy Rack for the forum - this one purposely on the cheap - i.e. not overly refined but functional. I needed to get the (pretty warm) McCormack out of the entertainment built-in, plus I was just running out of room for cables and power outlets, and finally, knew the TT would benefit from a better platform. (Was using an old end table for that) I'm pleased with how she turned out given the cost and labor involved!

Spent about $40 on 1/2" allthread, washers, nuts, and four plastic cover caps. We had the veneered 5/8" MDF laying around at work from some large armoires that were being thrown out, so that was free... it came out so nice I might end up edge banding the MDF with veneer later. Already had some spray on Flex-Seal at home, so I used that for dampener on the bottom of the shelves.

Basic construction is as you'd imagine and has been detailed in many threads, I left out the neoprene washers but cinched everything down tight with wrenchs. There was definitely a "ring" as a result when you knocked on the bare shelf, but the Flex-Seal helped that some... then I ground the bottom of the all-thread into spikes, which also helped. Once equipment was placed, the shelves are pretty dead sounding now.

Anyway - for $40 and about two hours work - I thought it worth a post. Nothing fancy, just functional and shockingly easy really considering...

Great idea, it looks nice, clean and stable with lots of room for your components to breathe.

    Thanks gents -

Funny Dskip - I was looking at that while listening today in fact - no need for all that wasted space up top when the amp needs more air you're right - thanks!

Nice simple clean and functional. I've built many of these over the years for friends and myself.
