I'm looking for a subwoofer, but, for those who don't know my story, it'll be a while before I get it. One delima I've had is that I don't have much room for sub; I mean, practically none. That's sorta why Pinnacle's SubSonic sub has caught my eye. I was wondering what y'all think about it, or if y'all have heard of it. It seems to have awesome specs, despite its size.
It is an 8" cude with dual 6.5' woofers. That doesn't sound too good, but it has a 200-watt amp, a frequency response of 28-15- Hz, and it is an acoustic suspension, umm, speaker; however you refer to that.

So, what do you guys think? It's got a steep $600 price tag at Crutchfield, so I wouldn't want to buy it if it is something I would later want to upgrade from. Also, I would mostly be using it for music; about 97.99786% of the time.

Oops, 6.5" woofers, not feet. That would be awesome!

Man, that looks like an awesome sub!! Great frequency response, massively powerful amp, great looks, huge driver (how big?); just fantastic!! However, problem. I don't buy online. I know, I'd be the envy of all my friends with that, :cool: but I live under my parents rule right now, and I don't buy online. :rolleyes: Besides, when you do make purchases online, how can you be sure of the quality and the condition of the merchandise. If it were in a store, I'm sure I'd jump on it instantly; seeing how it's online, though; I guess I'll wait and wind up with something not half as nice. I appreciate the recommendation, though!!

Also, I understand that I want tight bass that is accurate and that I want a sub that can produce it and not get behind the music. Considering the Pinnacle SubSonic has such small woofers, this leads me to believe that it would be very fast and be able to keep up with music and also to be able to provide a quick 'punch'. I don't really know what I am to look for in a subwoofer, so I would appreciate some guide lines. My price range is supposed to be a LOT less than this Pinnacle at $600 (like, 2-400), but I might be persuaded to raise this bar. I am mainly listening to music (practically all the time), but I like to feel and see the bass in things shaking. That doesn't mean I like thunderous and distorted bass; I want it to be very accurate and sound as like the instrument it is representing as it can. I don't know how close I can get to the instrument in my price range.

Come on, y'all!! Don't let this southerner down! Give me some advice!

How much room is there? Is the footprint or height the problem? Can you build your own? Can you make it into a coffee table, night stand etc? Is infinite baffle a possibility? If you want a small sub that goes low and loud it is gonna cost ya. It will need lots of power to make up for the smaller displacement and volume. Outlaw also has a sub that is slightly cheeper and had a good review that might be worth looking at. If room was an issue and you didn't mind a little higher price the Martin Logan has a real small sub with very good sound and can put the thump in HT very good for a smaller room, also would be a good one to look at IMO. I have seen the Logan set up and I can tell ya that it did one good job and blended nicely.

All the replies seem to ignore your criteria that the sub be super small. With the exception of the Sunfire Sub, the rest would probably be too big for you if I understand your post correctly.
I have the Pinnacle Subsonic. As long as it is used in a small room
(mine is 12 x 14) it does a good job. It sounds very musical and fast. I have it paired with Polk RTi4s. It does not like to be pushed hard - it will distort. This is not a sub you would want to use for home theater - it will not shake the walls if you just want to impress your buddies with your new home theater system.
Crutchfield has a 30 day return policy so you could try it out and if it doesn't work for you return it. I use the Pinnacle for 95% music and 5% movies. Go to pinnaclespeakers.com for a review of the Pinnacle Subsonic by Home Theater Magazine.

All the subs are not too big, the Martin Logan is about the size of one fxi30 and about the same shape. It was one impressive very little sub, I had to really look to find it, it was behind a potted plant (behind the pot) in the corner of the room, it was no taller the the pot the plant was in. Racer I'm sure also can tell ya that the little sub can put it out especally for a smaller room where size is an issue.

Thanks guys for all the info. I know have an idea of some points to look for and will soon start looking for speakers and a sub. To be honest, if I get Klipsch speakers I'll probably get a Klipsch sub. If I get Polk speakers I'll probably get a polk sub. If I get Paradigm speakers, I'll at least look at their subs. Those are pretty much the three brands I've narrowed it down to so far. A store near me that sells paradigm let's you borrow speakers for a weekend or something, so I'll be checking them out soon. I hope. Thanks!!

i don't know about the rest of the ppl here, but the new klipsch reference subs i've heard are horrible. Have you checked out velodyne at all as well? They usually have an extremely small cabinet on a lot of their models.
