The remastered Beatles LP's

Does anyone have an opinion regarding Mono vs Stereo versions of the remastered Beatles LP's? I grew up listening to stereo, but have read that the mono's sound better and are pure analog.

Should I care that the stereo LP's are not completely analog? Going back to the release of the 2009 CD's, I read more than once, that the only way to hear Sgt. Peppers is in mono. I find that hard to believe. When you switch from one in mono to same one in stereo, for a comparison do they sound the same...quality wise? Also, if you do have the 2009 CD's, does the new vinly sound better? Thanks for your input. I don't want to buy one set over the other only to wish later that I bought the other.

The new mono LPs are pretty darned good -- I've never (believe it or not) heard any original UK Parlophone mono originals, but they're better than any of the other flavors I've heard.

The mono CDs are not bad, but a little unemotional somehow -- they just don't quite sparkle.

Totally agree with mhardy. I have the Mono box set and love it. I also have the "White Album" and "With the Beatles" 2009 digital re-mastered LP's and like my Mono better!

I have both CD box sets and I think the stereo ones are very good. I tried a few times to listen to the mono's and can't get through them. The sound quality's there, but no depth, almost a wall of sound effect. Might just need some getting used to. There's a great record store near me and the other day I bought 4 of the new LP's. One of the 4 is A Hard Days Night in mono. I was telling one of the owners about how I felt regarding the mono CD's. He asked me if my system had a mono/stereo button. I told him it did and he said to make sure that when I'm listening to the mono's to set the button to mono. Never thought of this before and it did make a bit of a difference. The other 3 albums are stereo and I considering exchanging them for the mono's, so any feed back is helpful.

Well so far I've listened to A Hard Days Night, Rubber Soul, Sgt Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour. They all sound terrific. I will be picking up more this weekend.

My advice is buy the mono box set, then also get the new releases of the red and blue album in stereo. The recent red and blue releases are all analog, they did a complete stereo remaster from the original tapes, rather than using the digital master as they did for the stereo box set. The new red and blue stereo LP's sound amazing, and are a bit of a teaser for how good they could have made the stereo albums if they had done them right. The recent mono box set sounds fantastic, and I have original presses of the British mono that I am able to compare to.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
