45 degree binding posts, up or down?

I'm upgrading the binding post cups on a pair of Pinnacle bookshelf speakers. I'm removing a spring loaded set and going with the ones that accept banana plug. The cups I bought have the posts set at a 45 degree angle. Do I point them up or down? If I point them up, it appears to put additional strain on the speaker wire. If I point them down the plugs might not seat as well. I'm using 14gauge wire. What do you think?
