Thinking about downsizing in the future

So I'm not done with my RS-II's, but overall I just keep coming back to the fact my room is very narrow and long (no way to change it, or re-arrange my rack) and that floostanders may just take up too much space....

I'm looking for suggestions on bookies that would be under say 850 new (used is ok too) that I should be reading up on in case I decide to move on.

I keep coming back to being able to locate them where they need to be when I'm listening, and then move them back against the wall when I'm not. I'm planning on stereo subs as well, so if they dont dig super deep thats ok too.

Most of the floorstanders I have heard are supposed to be pulled out a couple feet into the room and that just leaves me with no room.

With no furniture in it my room is 10 1/2 Deep x 14 1/2 wide x 8 tall. After it hits the half wall, the ceiling dips down and that entire back end is open. On the right side I am open to the hallway, and the left side is closed with a window halfway in the room.

So suggest away. This is a research thread for me, I dont plan to do any buying anytime soon, but want to know what I should be trying to get my ears on......

Ushers are on my list. Would love other suggestions.

703's used. Wharfedale 10.1? bookshelf, Ushers seem to be loved. Those speakers someone brought to DSkips texas gathering looked pretty sweet. Come on man you are the internet search king, you won't have any trouble finding what would suit you.

LOL... yeah, but why do lots of searching when I can leverage the WEALTH of knowledge members here have lol..

Help me narrow down the field quicker lol....

The ones your talking about were not yet in production. They are a collaboration between @RuSsMaN and @txcoastal1 and are from their company called "Torch Audio" IIRC.

I've talked to him a couple times about those speakers and they are a bit outside my price range and I'm quite sure they will be worth every penny.

Dan, don't move on any speakers until after LSAF in May. As far as that price range, you may initially look at Tyler Acoustics Monitors with the Seas Drivers and Green Mountain Audio Rio. Both should be near the $1k mark used. Another choice would of course be the Be-718, but let me get the Mini X and T-515 in before you make a move on those.

Depending on how it goes, there is a possibility that an outlier not even on the market may be ready by LSAF that could hit that mark. We will see.

I dont plan on making any moves that soon @DSkip ... I move like a turtle... And do a MASSIVE amount of research.....

I think youre talking about what I posted above.....

@TNHNDYMAN, the 703's simply were not my cup of tea. Not enough soul in the music with those speakers for me.

You ought to hear them with the Plinius. I wish someone with LSiM's would buy that amp. It was one hell of a pairing.

Maybe someday Skip, but I had em with fairly decent gear and they just didnt sound right compared to the similar LSi series...

I just couldn't connect to them at any level. And I've learned thats OK. So I'd be open to listening to them again, but don't expect to be impressed....

Another I'm gonna put down so I dont forget was Paradigm Studios. Been a long time since I heard them but I was somewhat impressed by them....

I don't know much about bookies but I'm sure you'll figure it out. If not, just fire up that big daddy you've built and all will be right with the world.

LOL... thats for downstairs..... that system wont be moving anytime soon......

I'm talking about upstairs where currently the RS-II's and RTA 11TL's live... the 11TL's will not be going anywhere but maybe storage...... I love them too much.... and I'm still waiting to hear what the RS-II's can do but fear the room is simply too small for them to really flex their arms......

Gotcha, I figured you was talking about the room upstairs off the staircase.

Have done tons of those houses over the years with a similar floorplan and always wondered myself how one would setup a system for that room/area.

Funny you mention your fondness of your 11's. A friend stopped by earlier, we was listening to some music on my SDA's and he ask about my 11's sitting off to the sidelines "not hooked" up to anything.

I hooked em up and let em run for about an hour,
"he said are those for sale"? I said nope, they sure ain't.

Yup. I'm going to have to try and work my way through it best I can... I'm going to treat it shortly to see what I can do to help it that way...

Yup, thy help make the music come alive for me..... And given my space constraints they work quite well.... And I've still got to hot rod them with my rings and dynamat too...

I also think bookies are just the better options, and easier to store (re hoard) since they take up less space and are easier to ship/sell, etc......

I still have not got much done with my 11's. I did replace a driver in the "woodgrain" set I got a while back and thats it.

However, I keep looking at Polk's tx550's, I love the look of them and yeah should have done it at the earlier sale just didn't know much about them.

CRS+, last generation modded. Should be in your price range and designed to be close to the wall.

That is a small space for any SDA. He will do better with a more conventional speaker. Actually Dan, you MIGHT be able to get the MMG to work in that space. They are definitely easy to move.

Yeah I'd thought that but I'm not sold they would work that well.....

Hence looking at bookies like dem Ushers

Thanks for chatting with me Skip..... As I mentioned for now, I'm not looking to buy anytime in the next 6 months, I'm just looking to start looking at what brands I should be putting my ears on so I can find dealers to do so...

@SCompRacer you gonna go to Apoxia this year? I may tag along if so as its a great way to get my ears on a bunch of stuff.....

To some extent yes, but they visually done seem to take up as much space. They also are easier to put in place and then move back/store out of the way.
