Is it room acoustics or component synergies?

So I have a pair of RT-2000Ps being driven by a NAD 2400 that were bumped out of the living room by a pair of RTA 8Ts. Last night just for fun I hooked them up in the basement to an Integra 4.6 with a Sony BDP-S570. Wow, I couldn't believe it. This setup sounded way better than I ever expected. I guess room acoustic and component synergies really do matter. It's not that I was a non believer, I just never experienced anything like this before. I'm beginning to think my living room is an acoustical challenge. It's a fairly large rectangular room with a sloped ceiling starting at 7 feet on one side and runs up to 12 feet on the other. My basement is finished, and a bit smaller with a 7 foot dropped ceiling. Even with a pool table in the middle room things sound very good in the basement. I can only imagine how things would sound in the right room. I guess I'll have to do another A/B comparison with the 8s in the basement this weekend.

I can imagine a room with a sloped ceiling like that to be a nightmare to work with. Hopefully, others here can chime in that have been able to tame a room like that with treatments etc.

Think of the room as part of the system. Is your room sloped left to right or front to back ? Left to right would be a challenge to tame.HT SYSTEM-

What tonyb said. If you have followed any of my old threads about my living room issues or since i had to move things to my den, it didnt mattter how much $ i spent on components, untill I had my room acoustics in check, I went crazy with swapping out speakers, preamp's, amps, cables,..... Yep I went through a lot of nice stuff.
Since I have the room under control I have bought or sold anything.

The ceiling slopes right to left. Right side is a 12 foot wall, left side is mostly glass. I think it would be easier to tweak things in the basement, but that's for another day.
I'm also pretty impressed with receiver and BDP. Picked up both recently off CL for less than dinner for 2. The BDP connects with no problem to my network while the smart TV next to it can't see the router at all. I also think it sounds pretty good.HT- Samsung PN50B860/Integra DTR 30.3/Rt55 Fronts
