Dr. Spec: Which SVS should I buy?

Dr Spec:
It's time to upgrade. My HT is 15x17. The distance from the floor to the ceiling is 8 feet. There is a 3 1/2 foot opening at the entrance. Which SVS Sub would you recommend? My budget is $800. I'm on the back order list for a HSU VTF3 MK2, but I'm thinking maybe the 20-39 or 25-39 PC+ or maybe even the 20-39Pci would be a better choice.

Thanks,
MP

You can always email SVS and ask them.

    Horse's mouth and all.

I had the exact same questions and have had great response from Tom V at SVS. I supplied a .bmp of my room, my budget, my listening habits and he made several recommendations. I'd drop him a line if I were you.

I've talked to SVS. (I should have put that in the original post.) I wanted to get the Doctor's opinion plus other SVS owners as well. Tough decision...

    - Describe where the sub will be placed in the room, how from it you will be, and how far it will be from the one permanent opening.

    - Describe your tastes for music and HT.

    - What is your typical master volume setting when watching DVDs with respect to Reference Level (like 10 or 15 or 20 dB below RL, etc.)?

    - Your system should be calibrated to RL with a calibration disc and a sound meter. But...if you aren’t calibrated to RL, just tell me your preferred playback volume for HT (moderate, loud, or REALLY room-shakingly loud).

    - If all your channels are calibrated and balanced, how "hot" is your sub running, compared to your surround channels?

The sub will be placed in the left corner, 14 1/2 feet from my sitting position, and about 17 feet from the permanent opening which is at the center of the rear wall.

Tastes for music and HT: 99% HT. Iron Giant, U571, Star Wars Pod Race, The Haunting Scene 10, Attack of The Clones, Titan A.E....

My typical master volume setting when watching DVDs with respect to Reference Level 10 to 20db below.

Subs run +5 compared to my surround channels.

    2000 ft3 room

    15 feet from the sub

99% action oriented DVDs with tons of bass

DVD playback -20RL to -10RL with sub calibration 5 dB hot

    $800 budget

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Top Recommendation: PB2-ISD (if you have the floor space and the budget stretch)

    Alternate Recommendation: 25-31PC+

I also think the PB2-ISD is the better choice. I have the floor space and the difference in price is worth it. Also, I'm not sure what the WAF would be with a cylinder sub.

    Thanks!
