After reading all the vintage post section twice over the last 4 months I wondered why a few comments were on the better sounding monitor 7 than Pio hpm-100's. I have both and there two different worlds. Comments please. Thank you.
I do run all my Speakers with vintage receivers-(1974)Yamaha CR-800, (1969)Pioneer sx-1000td. Speakers: polk monitors 7c, 5b, 5jr, Pioneer hpm-100 and 900. I like the sound of late 60's to early 70's receivers.

I would have to say because the person or persons liked the sound of the Polk's better, not sure why that would come as a surprise as not everyone likes the same sound. Which one do you think is better?Political Correctness'.........defined

I like them both. The hpm-100 has a deeper and heavy bottom sound but the 7c has a lite clean base. I hooked up the 7c and 5's together(a) and hooked the 100's (b) , doing the a/b thing, that even change the difference in sound. Thats way I have different set ups with different speakers to enjoy a different sound. Kinda like eating different foods, gets old eating the same thing day after day!Joey Ward

I never get tired of my RTA-12B's.
How did you hook the 7's and 5s together? Be careful not to drop impedance too low.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I ran the 7 and 5 together to see how it sounded vs the hpm-100 for just a little while. i do run my 5b and 5jr+ together all the time because the tweeters and 6 1/2 drivers are the same but the pasive are the only thing thats different, the 5b is 8 inch and the 5jr+ is 6 1/2 inch. They sound good together and have ran them for a year or so that way. In the polk instrution manual it shows how to hook two sets of speakers to one terminal on the back of your receiver. I would tell you more but i do not want to give you bad advice even if its in the polk's manual that iam looking at right now. Its simple and you don't have two sets of wires running from your receiver a and b post to the spearkers. The only problem is that they both run all the time and you can't turn one set off. Both sound so good together, when i play only one set it sounds empty. Together, both playing, sound full and better than the 7c. Some day would like to test that combo vs polk 10's.Joey Ward
